G'day guys.
I was avoiding forums because I'm way too broke to modify another vehicle (I had to sell my motorbike to pay my rego. Damn you ACT) but I've gotten clucky again (or the car based equivalent). :|

About a year ago I got my 2012 GLR Dual cab and it's dead stock. Not one extra or modification on it (well, a few little decals but they hardly count). I'm gonna start changing things around this year, starting with cheap DIY jobs. Any recommendations would be amazing.

Aaaand, obligatory photos.

I'm really keen on learning how to drive off road without looking like a twat. My RX-7 wasn't much good for that

Looking around the site I'm already seeing some nice cheap things I can play with. Bright red bash plate anyone? ;)

It looks fantastic the way it is, I reckon the honeycomb grills look 8-) on that model and bar work etc takes it away.

If stuck for cash, just run the tyres out then throw some 265/70/17's on it next time around and enjoy the vehicle. 8-)

When going off road, stay in your limits and learn off others.

As fridge said, a 4WD training course will help too.

As the other have said put a new set of boots on and a training course maybe some of the ACT guys can show you around as well.

I've had my triton for 3 years now and it is still pretty much stock only just put new boots on, these cars go pretty well in stock form...

Oh and welcome aboard :D :D :D

Those plates don't provide any more protection than a splashguard. If you're thinking of doing anything hard core with it you'll want some replacement plates with a bit more strength in them. They do look good in red though I'll give you that. ;)

Dave, that was my suspicion, especially with the back one. Holy jeebus it was flimsy.

My little baby is growing up, just had it's first real service and even lost a baby tooth (they replaced 3rd gear because the original was made wrong or something). Still drives rough as guts.

Hey mate nice rig, I'm a fellow Canberran and am keen to head out for a drive offroad with some fellow Triton owners.

I'll post something up in the trip organizing section and see who is keen. I know some nice tracks that are fun in stockers like ours so I will post some ideas and hopefully some other people have some ideas on other good tracks too.

As for cheap DIY mods ideas I've knocked over a few on mine and they have been great:

Seat spacers
EGR blank
Diff, gearbox and transfer breather extension kit.

Cheers

Shane.

I've never looked at EGR blanking, seems like it could lead to a number of small pesky problems.

I would definitely be keen to meet up with fellow Canberrans.

Give the EGR blank a go, nothing to lose but some real benefits to had for your intake.

10 minute job to fit and the same to remove. I have not had one single negative issues since installing mine at the 1000km mark.

Have a read of the info on here and make up your own mind ;)

I got myself an EGR blank but did not fit it as that would be wrong...

I also painted the engine cover, just cause.

You can actually leave the existing gasket thing in there and slide the blank in next to it. Makes life easier if you want to put it back to stock when returning to the dealer for example. Sliding the blank in without taking the bolts all the way out requires the two holes to be slotted as they are on the chipit version of the product.
