I've bought 2 OBD2 wifi dongles so far but neither will pair to any app that I download. Any tricks you guys know to get the dongle and app to pair??

I had just bought an OBD2 dongle from ebay, tried everything using my andriod and pc and evently it was faulty, the ebay seller sent me a new one (the black version rather than the mini blue on and both are ELM2's) and works a treat on both the andriod and PC.

Do you have more than one triton? I saw your other post about the 02 MK and wouldn't have thought it would have an obd2 port to start with

With the iPhone you need to look at the website for each app as to the approved dongles they will work with. When I was looking (ages ago) it was mostly a brand called kiwi that worked

We used to import the "Kiwi Wifi" dongle but they were a metric crap load more expensive than the eBay cheapies, so we didn't sell many. They work great with the REV and DashCommand iOS apps. Compatibility with the eBay wifi dongles can be a bit hit and miss.

Basically, it depends on your phone...

Iphone: wifi
Android: Bluetooth
Windows: not sure but probably Bluetooth

Torque doesn't display outside temperature. Is this because the sensor isn't installed?

The 327 chip uses a serial to Bluetooth adaptor within the plug. Apple in their infinite and unmistakable wisdom do not permit a serial - serial connection via Bluetooth with their iOS devices.

I learnt the hard way also.

I have been investigating this of late. If you look at the wiring diagrams for the RV meter it has a connection to the canbus (which is where the OBD port gets most of its data I think) and a separate connection to another plug altogether for the ambient temperature sensor reading.

My theory is that mitsy have kept it on another circuit somehow. That theory isn't perfect though as a mut3 connected via OBD is able to see that reading along with about 100 others...

Why doesn't torque see it then? It has a spot for it but it comes up as blank as if there was no data for it?
Annoying.

I learnt that the hard way too Nerdy. Have given up on android/torque and have ordered a wifi OBD allegedly compatible with iPhone. The main features I wanted from OBD are l/100km and temperature. Hopefully Dash Command works with the iPhone without jailbreaking it. Otherwise the Mrs might not be happy when I jailbreak her iPod ;)
