Mid Service Oil Change - 7500km

As above there have been plenty of advancements in oil & filtering so the old '5000klm service' isn't as practical these days as earlier years. In saying that I do 10k services on all our cars regardless, diff & gearbag oil yearly and will only do coolant if losing its colour or I have to pull the rad out.

Servicing is fear of god by car makers litigation for warranty anyway.

I guess for me, as most of my time will be spent on the blacktop with maybe 10% dirt roads. the scheduled oil changes should be fine, and when I do some extended outback travel I can hopefully make an informed decision about whether to change the oil sooner.

I do my 2009 every 7500 2wd and just did my 1st service on my 2013 glx r at 7500km's, I dropped the oil and noticed less oil in the pan, I checked the service manual and it says 5.5 in the sump and 1.1 in the filter etc.

my 2009 is 8.2lts, where is the change in the motor? Different sumps between 2 and 4wds?

As I was clearing my emails the other day I noticed an email from my dealer advising me my triton was due for it's 6 monthly "intermediate" service. Now I was under the impression that I wasn't due for another service until Feb next year or 15000km. Just wondering if anyone else has experience with this and whether this "intermediate" service has any impact on my warranty or not.
N.b. I tried calling the dealer twice this week both times being told the servicing department will get back to me which they didn't, and given Monday will be the earliest I'll here from them now thought I'd try here over the weekend.

Typically you only need an intermediate service if you're working it hard like in tough conditions or lots of towing. Pretty sure the handbook thing in the glovebox explains the criteria.

My first dealer did the same thing and tried using scare tactics to make me book in. They rang several times to try and secure a booking.

As Dave said, it's all clearly written in black and white in the handbooks so just quote from that if they give you any grief.

1) Any advice on when to dump new truck factory oil ?

A) Wait tell 7500Km? .
B) The sooner the better.

2) My guess is the factory oil quality is ?

A) Good spec long life oil most likely fully synthetic or
B) Thia Coconut oil with a hint of green curry.

I'm a mechanic and personally i think 15,000km/12 months is to long for servicing intervals. I've only got 1600 k's on mine but come 6month/7500km i will change the oil + filter (not dojng the filter for me is pointless) also probably drop my auto fluid after the first run in period to hopefully smooth up the shift pattern.... factory oils aren't what there crapped up to be

I got my gearbox (manual) changed at the 1500km due to stiff changing down from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. looks like a change at 7500km then.

After reading this thread I have noticed that the sticker they put on your windscreen after a service says my next one is due at 9000km. 7500km after the initial 1500km check up. Anyone else get this or are chadstone mitsubishi just trying to scam extra coin out of me for a service that doesn't need doing? or one that i can easily do myself anyway.

I shall be using these filters for services inbetween the scheduled dealer services, but will make sure the last change i do before the dealer service i use a OEM filter just to make sure they dont have a whinge about me doing oil changes (hopefully they will just think the OEM filter was the one they put on the last service)

The OEM filter is designed for 15000km. You are changing the oil 2 more times that's alot of crap you are taking of the filter. The OEM filter is doing less then half it is designed for. Might be a good idea to cut open the cheap filter and make sure it looks ok. Might be built to a price not performance.
The $40 might be better spent on some better oil. Its also allot quicker to do a quick dump as the filter change is a real pain in the butt. You will have no warranty concerns. What happens if something goes wrong while your driving and it gets towed to the dealer they find your cheap filter. NO warranty. What if the cheap filter blocks or breaks and damages your motor. No warranty empty wallet.

I dump mine every 5000km. Still looks pretty good despite the EGR pumping all the crap into it, as others have mentioned the oil today is also designed to work with the crap. Don't worry about black oil, look for sludge. When you dump it let it sit for 30minutes.When you pour it into a container to discard observe thickness of the sludge and dirt in the bottom of the catch pan. if its looking sludgy and it should'nt with 5000km changes do a double oil dump. Fill drive it a few days and dump again. I personally don't like any type of engine flushes, adding diesel etc.
