Travs MN GLR build

Postby trav587 on Mon Apr 27, 2015 8:48 pm

Blew out my front diff centre over the weekend. Went with a loud bang in low range. Only on soft sand, no ruts so very surprised it went before my cvs. One cv is stock and the other is a cheap gsp one. At least it's a good excuse for lockers, just bad timing though

What's that about a 4ft lift? I guess it was only a matter of time.

What's that about I don't even run a 4" lift. 2" and 33s only which plenty of people on here run. Keep your smart arse comments to yourslef if you have no idea what you're talking about

Geez mate, over-reacting much? It was a joke about the car being 4 foot in the air on a hoist.

Honestly some people need to take a chill pill and stop assuming everyone is out to get them.

Have you pulled the front diff apart yet?
It'll be interesting to see what has failed. Have you had any metal in the oil when doing services?

Same, interested to see also.

There a strong little diff so I'm also surprised it went before the CV.

Yeh sorry for overreacting then if you're trying to have a joke. That could of been read a few different ways and like I said in my post it was bad timing so I wasn't in the mood.

Nah I didn't get time yesterday to pull it apart. All the other services were normal. After the bang I lost all drive the front. Lucky the tritons are awesome so I easily got back home in 2wd through the tracks. Quite a few big chunks and filings came out with the oil. Also the 4wd light flashes constantly in 2wd?? Will keep everyone posted once the diff is apart.

How did you find the exhaust? Any change in pick up or torque?
What brand did you get?
Bugger about the diff.

Hey Trav

Never liked the MN's, always thought they looked way too long in the arse, but yours looks great, good job.

Nah no drama, I've read through the regulations before doing the chop and from what it reads it is ok to trim as long as it's not structural panels. No different to trimming the front bumper to install a bullbar. In real life with the bar no one really notices it.

Also since I blew the front diff a while back. It was the axle that went first. Then because I didn't realise what happened and was still on the tracks having it in low range chewed out the internals Click to view larger picture

Doing a diff rebuild with new axles was way to expensive, so the quickest easiest option was to fit a second hand diff in. Whilst that was getting done front and rear ARB air lockers went in as well.

As with other Tritons with twin lockers it's transformed the rig in a massive way. Patrol owners on 35s watch with jaws dropped as it crawls up tracks with ease
