MQ Stereo removal

Hi guys,

In the GLS all you have to do is put your fingers in underneath the black facia near the seatbelt warning and pull out gently. The facia is only held on by clips. Pretty sure the GLX would be the same.

I'm struggling at the moment. Can pop the headunit fascia loose but can't seem to get it all off. Tried locating the cables but can't seem to find it. Any live pictures, photos or other advice

Stick your head in the drivers footwell and look up and towards the centre whilst turning the HVAC knobs. You should be able to see the cables and where they connect to the HVAC box. There is two cables on one side and one on the other. (behind the glovebox)

Attempting this project tomorrow.. installing a Sony XAV AX-100 media unit w/ aerpro facia into a stock MQ GLX+. Should be easy enough hopefully.

Found a few vids that demonstrate Mitsubishi curent way of removing the front console panel on their other vehicles, that I assume are similar to Triton useful here :

I pulled the trim/fascia off last weekend to get to the back of the 12v cig lighter socket.
It just pulls off, it's clips. I used a flat plastic scraper as a spudger you can get from bunnings.
Put it under the edges at the bottom to get both sides out a bit then just pulled the whole thing off, vents and all.
It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Rotary dials or climate control though? I think the climate control models are much easier to pull apart!

One would think that removing the current '17 model stereo would be similar to everything listed in this thread yeah?

Not that I want to replace the unit (looking forward to trying Android Auto), but in the event I want to add an amplifier and aftermarket speakers, I'm pretty sure the current method is to get some kind of plugin inline harness that extracts the RCA signal from a factory unit. At least, I watched a video of a couple of guys putting a slimline underseat subwoofer in an Amarok and that's what they did.

Going by the most recent link, the current unit (in GLS model anyway) is a full touchscreen and looks mostly like the <Vehicles with display audio> model.

If I get around to doing it, I'll report back here.

Hi, just added a new aerial and thought I'd post what I did for the GLX ('15 model). The big difference with the GLX is that the facia won't come off unless you remove the HVAC cables (think bicycle cables).

Steps...

Remove the glovebox.

Take the two HVAC cables off - as stated above you can spot these by operating the vent dials. Yellow is accessible from the glovebox side, blue from under the steering wheel. After removing them from the white plastic rotator, pull them from their clips (this requires a bit of physical force and swearing), but they pulled straight out and went back in with a push from the head of the pliars.

Take the front facia that surrounds the stereo off with the following video (which doesn't show HVAC cable removal).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXJlPrKYsrk

What the video doesn't show is that there are two little red clips on each side of the vents, you need to push those in to help the facia off or risk breaking clips. If you don't have any, trim tools are cheap on ebay and make this so much easier.

This should give enough room to get to the stero (you can probably remove the loom completely to get the entire facia off, but I didn't bother).

Remember to plug/clip anything back in that gave you access to HVAC cables and push those cables back onto their clips and hook back onto their white rotator.

Some pics - not that useful but I took em anyway.

@flomax I'm really interested in your Sony XAV-AX100 install as I've also bought the unit and putting it into a GLS. What Aerpro adapters did you use, specifically what secondary harness? Who did you buy the Aerpro parts thru?

Thanks mate

Good post, mate. I'm sure this will be very helpful for others attempting the same task. 8-)

Okay guys my name is Jeremy. I just fitted a bullbar mounted am/fm antenna to my triton. My triton is the glx i think. It has the manual turn knobs and manual slider for the heater controls. And to remove the radio facia surround is just a tad more complicated then what is on youtube for the other models.. here are the exact steps you will need to take.

Step1. Remove glove box

Step2. Place inside outside air slider to inside

Step3. Place position selector knob to demist

Step4. Looking through RHS of cavity locate yellow cable. Have a very good look at how it is secured.. locate the little push clip on the spindle cable is connected to. Carefully push clip down and pull cable off at the same time using one hand.

Step5. Approx 1" to the right you will see yellow cable is pinch in another steel clip. Again be careful and gently spread the steel clip wings and pull cable out. Pay attention to where the clip was located..

Step6. In the same cavity area you will find a black cable mounted to the inside ouside air box follow the same procedure used on yellow cable in steps 4 and 5.

Step7.once you have black cable free of the spindle and steel pinch clip you will see it has an addition white plastic clip. Very firmly pull straight down and it should pull the clip straight out undamaged.

Step8. Looking through the space between the steering column and the drivers knee air bag you should see a blue cable connected to the heater box. You will need to disconnect this in the same way as in steps 4 and 5.
Finally you can the remove the centre facia assembly in the same manner as shown in the gls youtube video posted by another member above.

To reassemble simply go in the exact reverse. I have photos but cant post them so pm me and ill be happy to email you the pics. Hope this really helps people so they dont have the stress i went through..
Cheers guys
