Brake controllers draw a fair few amps.
I suggest you move the connection point to under the big nut in the middle of the fuse block
ag9111 wrote:Not saying you have to buy a new one.
Just never been able to work out if you can replace the individual fuses. Not saying it can't be done
RHKTriton wrote:The clear covers and what looks like locking clips suggests there are individual modules, however, after doing a bit of a search it seems these blocks are a complete assembly and the window is just a viewing point to visually see that you're going to load up the credit card.
This fusible link block is essentially an isolation point in case of an accident so that the battery is less likely to set fire to a car.
Looks like you can spend from under $10 to over $50 for units, pending what type of vehicle.
Suggestion guys: use an after market unit to launch any added accessories from and leave the OEM stuff deal with what's fitted on the vehicle at time of manufacture.
The wiring on new cars is engineered to minimise production costs, so not much reserve capacity anywhere for addons.

Thats a big short.

I'd be looking for the cause of blowing an 80 amp fuse first ...

Biggest fuse I run on my aux setup is 25A (note: I don't run a brake controller though).
ag9111 wrote:Just looked at a spare unit i jave at home and the individual fusible links are not replaceable.
Suggest you take your own lube to the dealer if you are dead set on a new own.
The lancer one coughy linked does not allow for the glowplugs.
Not enough fuses on the other one he linked, but they are great for an aux battery.
AC137 wrote:I noticed the other day that my 80A fuse has also blown. If its just for the glow plugs, why does the preheat light still come on, on the dash and is it worth replacing?

Some brake controllers can take 30A, plus the base load out of the fuse.
I would say overload not short circuit.
Get that brake controller of the fusible link.
80A is not a big load in modern vehicles
