MN Tow bar position option?

Postby leonbee on Sun Jul 23, 2017 10:09 am

Just had a new genuine tow bar replaced on my Mn due to an accident. I previously had to take the tow ball off to lower the tailgate right down. The replacement genuine bar is fitted further in so I no longer have to take out the tow ball.

The down side is I had to lift up the number plate to hook on the trailer and the tun on the trailer will be slightly restricted on sharp turns.

Is this set up an option for the tow bar fitting or is the bar fitted incorrectly.?

Didn't get a ml bar instead of the proper mn - its about 200mm shorter?

Insurance mobs scout for the cheapest repair options so if a bar came up at the right price.....

Or have they mounted it wrong - check bolt holes on rails.

MN No step.

ML and MQ side plates are half as long and only one set of mounting holes

Cheers shogun. Looks like they put an ML bar on. It Would be no good reversing a caravan with the reduced turn space.

Wait! The plates on the bottom of the bar says MN....ummm Must be mounted back. Another set of holes is above the mounted holes. This would lift the bar up and back about 100ml. :?

Thanx guys' ;)

Turns out a genuine Mitsi single cab tray Bar was fitted its about 100mm to short.

The correct bar for a dual cab MN tub no step is now discontinued part MZ350375. I was considering putting a haymen reese bar on but managed to find one left in stock at a Mitsi branch.

So if you damage your genuine Tow bar or get rear ended you will have to change your Mitsi tow bar to a non genuine option.

Crikey! There's a lot of steel in those bars. How much does the kit weigh?

Weighs 65kg. I changed mine to a ML bar as it tucks in closer. Only down side was its only rated at 2.7t which suits the ute better. Also only weighs about 34kg.
