Transmission Fault code P1901

Postby 4wd26 on Thu Jun 04, 2009 6:05 pm

Guys,
Has anyone had this code come up before?
the engine warning light came up today and checking the scanguage this is the code.

P1901 TSS Circuit Intermittent Malfunction

I have noticed a lag (reluctance?) for the auto to change up into 4th. But that may be my imagination.

Trip to the stealers tomorrow- just what I need before the long weekend camping trip

Did you get any further to the cause/solution to this 4wd26?

Mine pulled this code... light on when I started her up..

P1901 TSS circuit intermittent malfunction (was really hoping it was scv code but no luck)

mmm may drop in at stealer if I get a chance just to give them more stick...

no limp mode just the light  (may have happened to mrs last night will ask her when she is awake)

I'm guessing this may have been the start of all his random codes it threw with the SCV issue I think???

Hope so anyway as you don't need transmission issues just before the big trip :?

thanks guys! :D

Light went off after 2nd startup. Cruise is fine.. Running as usual.. so no idea!
Mrs didnt see anything

pulling off chip and heading into dealer now.
Hope its the SCV..... not that replacing has helped everyone..
Will have a new SCV before trip if I get my way

Its not as if its unusual for the ECU to report the wrong thing... Plenty examples of that around here

//otherwise going to be painful trip up if SCV fails....

Well the actual code meaning is:

P1901 : CAN bus intermittent failure (saw it on the screen of MUT and he had the ML cd in it!)

They are baffled as to why... surprise surprise...
was another one in there 1701 : inhibitor failure (something to do with auto)...

no SCV code

They want it back in... Will organise with principal so I can have his car - he wasn't around..

Cant fault my dealer now.. They are honest, courteous and even let me in workshop to watch the MUT3 on my car (even took a few pix).. All DTC's cleared and full systems check all OK.. Watched it myself! Cool piece of kit!

//AND i showed up unannounced ;)

//sounding like electrical gremlins to me?? just my luck

26 was telling us the other weekend that they throw random codes when the SCV is packing it in...I'm sure there was another thread asking about throwing weird codes and it turned out to be SCV as well...so I'm betting...

agree with you too Homer! (26 has been thru and some others now.. some people just go straight to the code while others its a slow dying process by the sounds..)

The fact mine has a dead/flat point at a 'lower' chip tune to others has kind of has led me to that conclusion..
//This is only evident around the rev limiter >3500RPM.

The early symtoms do have a ring to them on this site even with my dodgy memory at times ;)

Will be having words with the dealer principal. It keeps the service dept on their toes anyway..
lets see how we go... :D

Damn a year later and it happens again

This time the battery and coolant light flashed but no cel but a record arrived of it in the ecu. Strange hesitation in the auto, exacerbated by rear wheels spinning up in the wet.. :?

It is definite a electrical gremlin.... who comes out in September to cause havoc.

So it is the September troll.... :x

Battery light etc sure points towards electrical connectivity issue. So occurred with a shock load to drive line as in change up wile spinning or sudden take up of traction?

I've now had the automatic CPU replaced.
Not sure if it was this code- but the MUT (and Eagers Mitsubishi) found there was still a persistent problem and it was replaced.

might be worth checking out as after the SCV was replaced I didn't really notice much wrong- an occasional loss of power with the cruise control on under full load

mmmm will keep an eye... did it cold dropping it over a roundabout so car jumping all over the place (misuse)

came good, but could be a ecu error as restart flashed a CEL... same error.

suspect computer over mechanical.... it is in my nature :geek:

thanks peeps :D

Transmission Fault code P1901

Postby tukadafoonday on Wed Dec 21, 2011 6:14 am

I threw this code this morning... First asc/tc and abs lights stayed on so I turned the car off and back on... Lights all went out but the engine light stayed on!!!

Code p1901 which is P1901 A/T fail(Engine timeout)

Cleared the code with the ultra gauge and it has not done anything since... So we will see what happens and if it throws it again off to the stealer.

I've been throwing these codes all week. Will be interested to see how yours pans out.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but thought to ask here than start a new thread. I've just had the code come up as we left the drive to go away.
Any updates on what it is (causes) or should I clear the code and drive 4 hrs to our destination.

Clear it. Pretty sure this is actually a fault caused by your obd device if it's the one I'm thinking of. If it is you might find it won't clear, depending on what you're using. If it won't clear at first it will disappear after a few starts if it doesn't sense the same problem again.

Cheers cd, I just clicked I may of had one years ago caused by the ultragauge, I had to re plug it in this morning after my mates amorok got towed as it was throwing turbo sensor codes.
It's cleared now hopefully will stay cleared.

Yeah the ultragauge can clear it but the scangauge won't. The trick is after replugging it in, turn the key to the last click before it starts and watch the ultragauge do its thing. Wait for it to finish, then turn off, then start and you'll be good to go. The code is just the ECU complaining because it saw a parameter out of whack when it was starting up and that's caused by the minor current drain of the ultragauge scanning everything as it initialises.

I was throwing the same code (with CEL) after my original install of the Ultragauge, cleared it a few times but consistently re-appeared, I then forced protocol through the gauge and no more codes.

Doesn't always work as l have been finding out, connected the ultragauge to a friends Colorado on the weekend, since putting back in the Tri consistent P1901 alarms, no matter what sequence l use to clear this... no joy
Tried Cowboys suggestion, and forced protocol, all with no success, CEL has eventually cleared though, but that alarm is giving me the
