Windows/stereo live when ignition off

Windows/stereo live when ignition off

Postby splitthis on Wed Jan 09, 2019 8:10 pm

Recently my 2012 triton has been occasionally draining the battery if it’s been left for more than a week. No lights on, no stereo on or any other accessories. Not sure if it’s related or not but I have also found that my stereo no longer turns off automatically with the ignition and that my windows are permanently live. Any suggestions on where to start looking?

Cheers

Is it the factory stereo? If not, check how the power has been wired.

Issue with the ETACS?

If you have the headlights on, do they turn off automatically when you turn off the engine?

It’s not the factory stereo, I have pulled it out and it’s wired in with a plug into the factory loom. When I first bought the car it definitely turned off automatically. I might disconnect it and see if that fixes the issue. The headlights still turn off with the ignition.

Maybe the memory backup power feed (in the stereo) is back-feeding into the power circuit. Its possible that a fault has developed in the power switching circuitry, which may consist of semiconductor components in lieu of mechanical switch contacts.

So ultimately, you could end up effectively having the equivalent of a resistor or short circuit between the memory and power feeds.

I removed the stereo and still had the issue. I’ve now removed a heap of shoddy PO accessory add ons and so far so good. I did find one thing I’m not sure about though. There is a fused wire coming straight off the battery and plugging into the harness just in front of the battery. Disconnecting it doesn’t appear to disconnect anything that I’ve noticed but the harness plug looks factory, does anyone know if this is stock or an add on? Thanks

I think that is for the towbar wiring harness.

Yes, strange way they get the juice to the towbar.

Wiring is in a loom up to the foot well where a bridge is needed and then it pops out of a loom in the engine bay.

Why wasn't it simply wired directly to the main fuse box?
