Largest Tyres with a 2 inch lift

Largest Tyres with a 2 inch lift

Postby Nooblishly on Sat May 20, 2017 5:42 pm

I have tried looking through the other topics and cant seem to get an answer I am searching for.

what is the largest ( and widest ) tyre that can be fitted to a Triton MQ with a 2 Inch lift?

Thanks in advance, and if anyone knows of a location with the answer please link it and I will close this.

On standard rims or sensible off set. Depends who you ask 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 or 32s some say 285/75/16 or 285/70/17 33s will fit. The actual size of tyres varies quite a lot so while some brands of 265 or 285 might fit other brands might not.

This is the thing, I have only ever ridden motorbikes and when I have owned a car I havnt learnt anything about them.

So you will have to dumb it down for me. Whats sensible off set?

I am looking at either micky or BFG M/T, I am sure this is the usual brand most people go with.

PS I am not really after the tall cool look, I am moving to Cairns at the end of the year and I want to do "the tip" trip, so i want as much clearance as possible.

MQ 265 on +20 rims. Required a wheel alignment for tyres not to scrub. +25 would sit 5mm closer to flares

265 tyres are a sensible compromise that doesn't bump your fuel economy up to much and doesn't stress your driveline excessively.
285's give you another 12mm of lift but cause fuel economy issues, can contact the body and stress CV's and steering components.

Generally tyres are slightly cheaper for 16" as opposed to 17" but other than that not a great deal to be gained.

Like above 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 or 32s really 31.6" diameter 265mm wide
285/75/16 or 285/70/17 32.6" or there about and 285 mm wide.

the 70 or 75 is side wall height so a little less for bigger diameter rims. ie 70% of 265 is side wall height.

There are tyre size calculators to calculate tyre sizes.
265/75/16 are 31.6"
265/70/16 are 30.5"

Standard rim off set is +38 which will work fine.
If you go after market wheels may as well go +20 or +25

with +20 rims the centre line of the rim sits 18mm further out from car than standard +38
Google taught me about rim off sets.

Thanks very much mate, I love the wealth of knowledge on this site, and how willing people are to help a fellow triton owner.

265/75/16, easier to get hold of especially if you need them at the tip.
Although your Tri will get to the tip without any mods, just easier and maybe a bit less damage with a few extras.

Rim width 8"
265 are a common tyre size found all over Aust. There are other sizes around 32" diameter but out of big cities may be harder to find.
