How noisy are they?

If you wind up your windows and turn the stereo up, they are not noisy at all

Just a footnote regarding noises levels, having the tyre pressure over 40 PSI greatly reduces noise levels and can be tolerated. Found this out by accident.

Blew a intercooler pipe on a trip 2 weeks ago, so a new set of plasmaman silicone pipes arrived today and I bolted on ready for another trip this weekend.

Replaced drivers side wing mirror chrome cap, someone generously took mine off and made it disappear. Don’t know why they wanted my one, it was pretty dull after 9yrs on road

I have done a collection of stuff so I have put it in one post. Firstly I slid into a tree stump and wiped out half of my passenger side.

Had it all repaired under insurance and got it back 2 weeks ago.
Added a condenser fan. Bring on summer.

Added a Max4x4 bullbar and Kings 7" led spotties

and lastly some seat spacers for both front seats. (don't know why I didn't get them sooner)
I have a warn winch order for next month to slot into the bullbar

Put this box in the tray, just out of plywood with a coat of paint, and held in place with cable ties. Holds strops, jumper leads, rope, tools, and various other bits and pieces they had been living in the back in a cardboard box.

There is plywood out under the dog that I might add an open topped slider drawer on at a later stage.

At 250k on the ole ML, I finally had to have a sticky under the rocker cover, check the valve clearances, replace the top chain guide and general inspection.

Over 2hrs finally got to lift the cover! Definitely move the wiring loom at the back out of the way to allow clearance for cover to be removed.

Most of the inlets were down on clearance and exhaust over.

The locking nuts were done up far too tight by the dealer when it was last done at 90k.

I fitted a new cover gasket and seals. A hint for young players, leave the injector seals till after the cover is in place. This will make it much easier to fit.

Then comes the other half of you're life disappearing while all the crap around the engine has to be refitted.

I was pleased with how clean the engine was under the cover ( usual oil film). Inlet manifold only seemed to have expected oil layer, nothing to inhibit performance. Egr was blocked at around 3k from new. Don't see any need for a catch can.

nice work, I also had the egr blocked from early stages (full plate then electronically)

no catch can either, just picked up a small oil leak at the rear of the transfer case that is annoying.

will get some time in the next couple of weeks to fully look it over.

The clutch replacement is the next adventure.

Swapping over the 21kg flywheel is not being looked forward to.

Spent the weekend removing and cleaning the Intake Manifold.

Took just over 6 hours including the clean. Was straightforward but there were a lot of pieces etc that needed to be removed or shoved out of the way. Manifold was dirty with oil but no real carbon build to speak off. That said the car seems to run slightly smoother but no real increase in power though.

Still blowing black smoke on takeoff....was hoping the manifold clean would help but oh well.

We'll, after nearly two years of neglect, the long weekend was a good opportunity to give the ride a decent clean and polish.

A major design deficiency is the ability to accumulate a large amount of leaf litter and mud behind the front guards. The easiest way to attack this was through the gap left when the front door was fully open.

Amazing where the mud rain from Wed got to and still remains, after lots of pressure washing and scrubbing.

Also, shampooing seats and carpet just got that dirt out that a vac never will.

Just have to attach the stains in the window rubbers, left by mould and/or algae.

Hardly looks like the pride and joy spent time in the 'beauty parlour. Pollen all over the interior and intake vents. UV protection restored by the mixture of smoke and dust in the air!

Haha sounds like mine at the moment, nothing like good old layers of dust and ash to keep uv at bay.

However I have just given mine some much need love and attention, with nearly $2k worth of mechanical work done... new timing belt kit, valve clearance adjustments, injector seals, new suction control valve, injector learn ect.
First time in 5years that its been off the road at the mechanics. I must say it does run a lot better now.

Had it assessed after the hail storm a couple of weeks ago.

Replace the bonnet, both front guards and the roof. Paintless Dent Repair all the other panels. plus new mirror, window seals, roof rails. They will end up respraying everything except the 2 rear doors and the tailgate.
