G'day team, what should an ECUTEK remap cost? I get the feeling it's one of these scenarios where the tuner advertises $2k but will drop by $500 the moment you ask. I've got a 2013 MN 4sp auto, based in Canberra if there are any recommendations? Gotta get rid of this terrible take off lag somehow.

Bill has just posted above as to the range of quotes he got. Every now and then you'll hear of a special, or a promotion or whatever that brings the price down a bit. A large chunk of the cost is the ecutek licence fee which probably won't vary across different tuners.

Hi guys, I had the Challenger ECU tuned today. I got it done at Flash Diesel in Brendale. I can't post the tune outputs because my scanner is rooted.

Key outputs were:

Torque improved from 354.1 to 457.9 nm

Power improved from 83.0 to 103.2 KW

The improvement is noticeable and the auto gear changes seem much better. The TC doesn't unlock any where as soon as it did, so early signs are good.

Will look at adding an exhaust soon if I thinkI need a bit more.
LS Challenger (MY12) with ARB Deluxe Bullbar, Stainless Steel Bashplate, Mitsubishi (ugly as shite) towbar, Redarc Electric Brakes, IPF Driving Lights, Dual Battery (Redarc), ERPS, Icom UHF, Snorkel and Mickey Thompson ATZ's.

Do you keep an eye on your auto temps?

As the torque converter slipping is a big discussion on transmission temps.

BTW you always need more :D

Nah not saying anything on power

Genuine question about transmission temps

If a tune makes a difference i would doubt it would matter if we're chasing max power or not

More wondering if the temps are dropping on less converter slip

I know it's not my concern being I have a manual but I still find it interesting :)

I have this feeling that some of our cars are built from a catalogue rather designed the way their advertised to a certain degree

My theory is that denso sell thier products (ECU's) with a program as such giving them (MM) so much control anything further than that MM than needs to go back to denso to have it changed as it than needs recoding as the adjustments needed are outside the given control of the original programming if you get what I mean
If MM had the coding they would be producing them themselves IMO
All about cost cutting that than keeps the our prices low.

Giving the engine extra power may solve this miss match application issue if that being the case

But given what you've shown there could be more to it than just engine power

Yeah mate, I will see you in a week or so. Went up the coast today and it does drive better. The TC doesn't unlock anywhere near as easily, stays in 5th at well below 2,000 revs at 80 kmh and TC remains locked unless the pedal is pressed hard. At times seem like it might be labouring,so I flick it to 4th and change up again at 100 or so.

No indication of more heat at this stage nor should there be with less gear changes.

Seems okay so far.

I can get a Ecutek "tune" for $900. The shop has a dyno and has been in business a long time.

My original thoughts were to just get a "base" or mild tune on the stock exhaust. Should I stump up the extra for an exhaust as well?

The exhaust will give you lower EGTs, and maybe 2 or 3 extra kW, there is no other real benefits. IMHO it's worth it for the EGTs, especially if you tow.

Also, that's an awesome price :shock:

I take a slightly different view in that if you're only going for a mild tune the exhaust is unlikely to provide much benefit, unless you tow or have sustained heavy loading. Adding an exhaust makes that very cheap tune a bit more expensive.

Agreed, but I would also suggest fitting an EGT gauge with any tune (or chip). It's cheap insurance to fit a probe bung in the stock exhaust, and you can see exactly what is going on. If you find that the temps become too high, the exhaust can always be added later.

I have a Triton MN 2.5L turbo diesel. I tried a Chip Tuning chip with terrible results- the original chip they supplied did not function on a Triton, the second chip delivered threw maybe 20 error codes in about one year, and that chip failed once, so they sent a replacement. They could never solve all my error code issues. I sent all the gear back & asked for my money back...they refused.
I then spoke to the owner of MRT & told him my story. He assured me his modified ecu file for Triton's does not throw error codes. So I paid MRT good money for their modified ROM file. In normal driving behavior it performs fine, however under heavy load in 3rd & 4th gear it will throw an error code & go into limp mode. I can make it do this repeatedly within say 5-10 seconds....very dangerous! I have tried for months to get this fixed by MRT. I think the MRT technical director Ben must be bipolar as he goes through stages of denying &/or admitting the Triton file has a bug in the software. His dominant character trait is denial. However on other days he does acknowledge his file has & will throw error codes in Triton's. I have spent thousands of dollars trying to identify what Ben describes as a "mechanical issue".
To make a long story short, I have found another company who can and did fix the bug in the MRT ecu ROM file, &/or supply you an new separate ROM file. Diesel Tune http://www.dieseltune.com.au/meet-the-team

I read of a Perth Tuner who in a FB post said they worked with MRT to solve overboosting in a clients MN recently.

i have these guys do mine and no more over boost issuses and no more blowing smoke
i would over boost on standard car let alone the mods i have done and i run 25psi boost every day driver
