EcuTEK Experiences

Postby cruiserman_83 on Thu Aug 22, 2013 1:15 pm

Hi All. I spent a few hours last night using the search function and was able to find a bit of info here and there. Im 99% certain that I'm going to get Mercury Motorsport in Brisbane (via EcuTEK Software) to Install the MRT XA kit to my 2.5 Triton Manual.
I would love to hear of experiences both good and bad from guys who have had this done. If you don't want to clutter up the forum feel free to PM me, email me at azampech@gmail.com or give me a buzz on 0405011847

Look forward to talking to someone. Seems to be a few knowledgeable people on this forum.

Cheers

My personal experience from years back is not good with them.
my last car went there for a dyno run and they ended up bending a side skirt on my wrx due to the way they tied down the car. Apparently "it wasnt us, you nust have dented it before you came here"

Carnt coment if things have changed, but google
merc motorsport and see what everyone has said on other forums
If im posting, im either on the toilet, at work or both

mate I was there a few months back now and got the tune done on a Saturday. The guys were great and were happy to show me around and look over the projects they have there whilst they tuned the car. I was a bit suss on it esp given the price but one drive I was convinced. Didn't take more then a few hours on the dyno and truck has not missed a beat since being there. I will get the next truck done no dramas
Keen to get amongst it!!

Thanks for all of the replies guys.

Just a couple of quick questions, does it improve the torque hole that exists below 1800rpm?

Under 'normal' driving, have you found any improvement in fuel consumption, if so by how much. Obviously if you use the extra power all the time you will use more.

Firstly, mine's an ML.

I got mine tuned by them when they were first starting doing the tritons, car was great but was tuned for more race type driving and I'd have preferred it slightly different but got what the tune was meant to be... Admittedly I had very little contact with them due to work commitments.

My tune was overwritten (only major drawback) by a dealer update which I noticed fairly quickly. My tune was redone with a lower torque curve and has been fantastic.

Full bar work, winch, 32" muddies on steel rims, loaded with tools, driving northside bris to central west cbd through crap traffic I'm averaging 9.7l/100km calculated at the pump and odometer adjusted for tyre size change travelling 600+km/week for work ;-)
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

Tim007, has it improved the response below 1800rpm? Also under normal hwy cruising, have you found your ecinomy has improved?. My wife is concerned that she wont be able to feel the difference. I figure that with the 30 day money back guarantee why not try it....

cheers

Economy is not much better for my truck but I have a fair bit of gear that probably effects that more. Trust me when I say you can feel it. Much safer and easier to over take other cars. I put the foot down at 100 and I am doing 130 past the car in front. One drive you will know and plenty of torque down low.

Mercury Motorsport normally charge $1990. But in an effort to get guys to spend thier Tax Cheques it is $1490 for July and August. If I make my mind up before EOM, I will pay then get it done on next lot of days off in towards end of September.

I like a bargain...hmmmm. :D

I wonder having an auto means the changes are as noticeable?

I believe an auto is not an issue. They also adjust the shift characteristics to make the most of it, but don't quote me on that. Best to talk to them or MRT who develop the product.

i agree with the last line but not the first.

To my knowledge NOBODY can access any of the auto transmission ECU parameters. Therefore there is no change to the shift parameters. Where you 'feel' a difference is in the fact that you may have a higher torque curve at lower RPM so it changes with less hesitation.

If someone on here can get into shift points etc. please PM please.
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

FANTASTIC!

They had two tritons in back to back that day. 2nd one put down a slightly better base run and higher final run, however I had better gains. Both Charts are on Mercury Motorsports facebook page. Mine is the blurry one. Too many people get caught up with 'peak' numbers. In that respect I only gained approx 110nm peak. But at 2200rpm ive gone from 240nm to 440nm. Off boost torque is now phenomenal. Have a look at thier facebook page and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask

Hi Guys,

Just had my triton re-tuned by the guys at Mercury Motorsport, so far so good mine is an auto 2012 model glxr and I must say I found the guys very keen and interested in helping me get the car too what I believe to be the standard as to which they should come from the factory like.
The car now pulls very hard from the bottom and nearly all the lag has been overcome now I'm not going to put dyno numbers up as i think thats a load of crap "people get lost in the numbers" but what I will say is that in the midrange this car now pulls like a freight train all the way up to red line with no felt drop off in the power. The car just feels stronger more responsive and all round just a nicer feeling car to drive "no more neck wobbling as the car changes gear from first to second as the power use to surge on and off then back on again" it is all now for more linear.
Still yet to tow the boat with it so that is the next test. But as for getting the work done by these guys, I'm totally satisfied with the results and for 1400 dollars I have no complaints.
Nice job.....

Had the Ecutec tune for over 2 years. Wins on all counts - excellent driveability, good economy, no additional plugins and wiring harnesses and above all, no reliability issues.

Generally well sorted with the mapping with no R & D on the run like some other tuning aids to sort out gremlins.

Downsides, only one. Do not allow any dealer to reflash the ECU as you could lose the tune. This is easily dealt with though. SQL's are ok but mostly not needed.

Mitsubishi in the UK chose Ecutec for reason. ;) :D
The voices in my head may not be real, but they do have some damned good ideas.

Hi All,

Stoopid question time....

It looks like I am up for this next week, time permitting. Does it matter that I am still on my stock HT's and I am planning to go up in size marginally when the time comes for new shoes? I have the standard 265/65/17 and I will be getting 265/70/17 so the diff is about 30mm.

Be gentle.

I can't see it mattering to be honest. You may lose a small amount of performance later, but not so that they would tune it differently now I wouldn't think.
