I think you'll find that there is some leeway in the Payload, check with the accountant. Back when I was a fleet manager there was but it was nearly 10 years ago.

payload is only 930kg for the ML 3.2DiD but I know quite a few taking advantage of the '1ton' tax effects...

This is the preamble for dual cabs.
http://law.ato.gov.au/atolaw/view.htm?Docid=MTR/MT2024/NAT/ATO/00001&PiT=99991231235958

Basically, the main purpose of the vehicle is for load carrying. The triton and most dual cabs fall into this category.

Exactly, being able to carry 'one ton' is one test, the other is that the vehicle is 'not designed for the principal purpose of carrying passengers' if it carries less than a ton. The vehicle only has to be 'one' of the above. (Obviously check with your accountant, but below is the semi-plain english explanation of their guidelines) :

If you read all the cr*p, the calculation is :

Gross Vehicle Weight minus Basic Kerb Weight = Remaining Load Capacity

Passenger Allowance = carrying capacity multiplied by 68 kg

Load Carrying Capacity = (Remaining Load Capacity minus Passenger Allowance)

The test is the Load Carrying Capacity must be greater than the Passenger Allowance.

So for the auto MN Triton GLX-R the above is :

Gross Vehicle Weight ( 2930 kg) minus Basic Kerb Weight ( 1992 kg) = Remaining Load Capacity ( 938 kg)

Passenger allowance = carrying capacity multiplied by 68 kg
= 5 x 68 kg = 340 kg

Load Carrying Capacity = (Remaining Load Capacity 938 kg minus 340 kg Passenger Allowance)
= 598 kg

So the passenger allowance is 340 kg and the Load Carrying Capacity (non-passenger) is 598 kg, so the Triton should well and truly continue to meet the ATO's guidelines provided all the other requirements are met (employee use is restricted to travel to and from work and any travel that is incidental to travel in the course of performing duties of employment, there will be no FBT liability.)

That probably made about as much sense as the ATO ... wish I could weigh 68 kg like their suggested occupants :)

yep the Triton complies as far as i am concerned based on ATO guidelines.

the beauty is travel too and from work is not taxable unlike a passenger car.....never use it for none work related purposes :? ;) but i will say this, when the ATO changes the rules and you can GUARANTEE they will because the Hilux is not the top sellling car for no reason the dual cab sales will drop off big time.

i HATE log books  so if they make me keep one for a Triton/Hilux etc then i am buying myself a landcruiser.... 8-)
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

Whilst sitting in Mitsu getting my recent work done, grabbed their official brochure for the MN - points I noted were:

1. Easy select for all models with Super select as an option...

2. Exploded diagram of the chassis shows 2 piece tailshaft as per easy select ML models...

Anyone seen/told any different to this...???

I don't know - I thought I'd picked up an ML brochure but it was all about the 2.5hp engine, extended tray on wheel audio/cruise, GL-R etc model designations and the rest of the shit

This is copied from the official on line MN brochure and seems to say that the 5 speed auto is optional but the Super Select is standard for the GLX-R.

GLX-R Double Cab (Features additional to GL-R Double Cab)
Mechanical
5 speed Sports Mode auto transmission (optional)
Super Select 4WD

Logic dictates the website is correct because it's specific whereas the brochure could be an omission?
