Where is the Camshaft sensor 4D56U?

Where is the Camshaft sensor 4D56U?

Postby > spielt mit on Sun Dec 04, 2011 6:05 am

Hi!

My camshaft sensor seems to be faulty (hope so). I have a new one now and want to exchange it but cannot find where it is fitted to the engine. Can someone give me a hint please?

Thank you in advance...

P.S.: Can anyone tell me if there is a possibility to get a manual download? I only find some for the older triton.

Spielt I have a manual that covers the 4D56 but it is a large file.....

I can look for the specific pages, give me a couple of days mate and see what I can do ;)

That would be great! I would love to have the whole file but most important is the specific sensor problem...

Thanks for the fast answer!

I could not access the link Spielt.

I have searched the manual and some, actually lots of pages are missing, the only engine info is for the 4D5 Single overhead cam. Seems to be non turbo, is this your engine ?

Anyway all I could find on the angle sensors is a crank angle sensor, no mention at all of a cam angle sensor....

This is about the limit of my help, sorry i don't have any more details.

Actually what year model etc is yours maybe that could uncover some more info somewhere.....

Thank you for trying so hard to help :).

My engine has a turbo and this image I found too, as manuals for the older engine is easier to find.

I try again to post the image:

Strange, the image is shown in both comments of me, I wonder if you have to wait a while until it is loaded, it is no link, but I copied the image location from this link:

Too hard to take a photo but it is located on the passenger side rear of the head, hidden behind the large bracket/eyelet. Just above the Common Rail Sensor.

Thanks a lot! My cousin and me did already see this but were not sure. Lots of things to get out of the way to get there - DAMN! :)

Thank you all for help! I will report how repair worked out. This will take a while as I broke yesterday one of my metatarsal bones - 4 weeks plaster minimum :(. Sun is shining out of my butt ^^.

Imagine the look of confusion on peoples faces when they hear a stroked 350 Chev with next to no exhaust at a set of lights and look over to see..... A TRITON!!!

Dammit now I want one aswell...

Spielt mit - PM me your email address and I will try to send it to you, it is a large file. I will try to zip it.

If I fail (likely), I will find the link for you.

Remove egr, it has a 8mm bolt holding it in. Bit of pain to do but not impossible.
No longer a Mitsubishi technician, just a plain old boring mechanic with Mitsubishi training...

2005 Toyota Prado gxl, Lifted, Bar, Lights, Tyres etc etc...

Triton still on the waiting list.....

He Chaser!

Took me Google to find out what you mean with EGR, but fortunately it was immediately explained ^^.
Language barrier :).

I will make it as you suggest, thanks!

By the way - Had anyone a similiar problem? I really hope it is just the sensor and not really sth with the cam shaft.

Hi Spilt,

I know this was some time ago but did replacing your Camshaft Sensor back in Dec 2011 fix your problem? Can you please explain your symptoms at the time because mine is now generating some abnormal events and the P0341 code is one of the popular ones coming up which relates to Camshaft Position Sensor.
Anyway be interested to know how you went.

Cheers,

Sharkey

Hi Sharkey!

Thanks for your interest! Unfortunately the problem was not the sensor itself but the cabling of the Ralliart power box.

I had a hard time to exchange the sensor only to see that the cable was damaged. I removed the Ralliart-box as I got a chip-tuning anyway...

So before taking any action I would first check the cabling.

Meanwhile I had a breach in the water cooling system which ruined my engine so I had to exchange it. :)

Happy new year!

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yeah all of my issues have come about 10 days after I had my DP Chip and 3" Exhaust fitted by Berrima Diesel. The symptom have been going in for almost a month now! The truck went back to Berrima for almost 5 days however I don't think they were able to find the route cause as it was always intermittent. Anyway today was almost the worst it's been so I phoned Mitsubishi Spare Parts and purchased a replacement Camshaft sensor as well as the small harness which it plugs into. Will look to change it out over the coming fortnight and hopefully that fixes the problem once and for all. To me it appears to be a fracture in the wiring harness somewhere around the back of the motor, near the fuel rail sensor.

It is so frustrating!

Anyway thanks for the tip. Cabling will be the first item I target. I've already had the DP Chip and it's harness removed and the problem would still appear so that tells me it's something to do with either the original harness or the sensor itself.

Cheers, have a good New Year.

I know this thread is old now but I had the same problem and thought I'd share.
the diagram below points to the plug and not the sensor. So the top of that plug goes to the loom and the bottom goes down and toward the sensor at the back of the engine.

I took this photo last night of mine, MN 2.5 diesel, my finger is pointing to the plug but below that and to the rear is a bracket with a hole in it. I think that is for lifting the engine out. Below and to the rear of that is where the sensor is. It's a really tight fit and I hope I don't have to remove it.
cheers

I think normally the sensor is fail-save....

Meanwhile my Triton got pushed upside down by a Fiat 500 and while everthing seems to work fine the whole car body is in a complete mess and so I will have to sell it - my heart is bleeding....

Sorry to hear about yours. But what do you mean fail-save?

my check light came on and went to limp. I pulled over and turned it off. then after it restarted it ran fine just with the check light on.

I reset the light and fiddled with the connection a few times and so far it's OK.

Don't take me too serious - I told before that in my case it was the cabling of the Ralliart box which was responsible...
