Ground to Starter or Ground to Chassis?

Ground to Starter or Ground to Chassis?

Postby alchie on Mon Mar 26, 2018 4:05 pm

I'm looking at putting together a 12v (2*6v) battery system in the tray of my MQ.

But I'm not sure whether I should run a negative cable (4B&S) from Starter to Aux which is straightforward as it's my first time. Or whether I should just run it to the chassis under the cab, which I've never done before. I did a quick search but couldn't find a topic that addresses this specifically. From my understanding, either setup would result in a decent ground, albeit running a cable from starter would be a bit more costly.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I’ve been running mine from the chassis for over 6 years and never an issue. Just make sure you get a good contact.

Ground /Earth can be any metal part of the car. Chassis, engine block as long as it is a good clean connection, Metal to Metal.

If you go to the chassis or tub at the rear, just realise that there are no major electrical connections from the chassis to the battery at the front end of the vehicle
