Rear door speaker color/polarity?

Postby MervinJ on Thu Apr 10, 2014 5:16 pm

G'day all I haven't been able to find anything regarding MN rear door speaker wire color/polarity. Can anybody remember what they are or how to tell positive from negative?

Thanks

Mervin, I've merged your thread with this one, in which you'll find the answers. There is more information in the DigOptions thread.

I searched using the keyword "speaker" and selected "Topic Titles Only". Much easier than starting a new thread and saves a Mod having to tidy up. ;)

Thanks Now. I could only find the front doors in this thread and I did lots of searches. The only think I could find was ML colors. Will have a read through Dig thread.

These are for a 2010 model but no guarantee your wire colours will match:

Go to the nearest shop that sells car audio and ask if you can borrow a set of brackets needed to pull out the radio.

I have used anything from toothpicks, copper wire, screwdrivers, folded paper, etc to remove radio's. What works depends on the type of radio.

Welcome to the forum Tritontomo.

You will find that many questions, such as yours have been asked and answered many times before and asking again, without searching for the answer yourself is likely to get a fairly short reply. Please use the search function in the future.

G'day folks, I've been searching high and low with no luck so far. Has anyone when replacing the speakers in the doors taken down the amount of depth there is to work with between the inner door skins and the window glass when the window is down?

It's probably a long shot but I thought I'd ask before I go pulling the doors skins to check and then putting them back again.

If you had of asked last week I could have told you. Had my door skins off all weekend.
I have spacers on mine as well but without spacers I would estimate about 60mm.

Thanks for the replies folks, that gives me a bit of starting point to look for some speakers, a few of the speakers I've been looking at are in the low 50mm rage so with a bit of a space I should right if it comes to it.

The stock speakers are spaced out by about 20-25mm so if you do the same with the MDF spacers mentioned above you should end up with a fair bit of room.

I just finished installing new speakers all around. I used 6" 25mm Carpeted Spacers from Aerpro #AP3161C and they left me with heaps of clearance. Majority of 6" or 6.5" speakers will fit in no worries.

I just went from a set of Alpine DDDrive splits to Alpine Type R's. Both have a mile of room.

That's what I just put in also. They certainly make loud noises.

G'day guys,
I am thinking of getting these for my MN (front and rear) as an improvement over the stock speakers do you think I will need to get spacers as well?

Thanks in advance

Just thought I'd add my a couple of pics of my install. I thought about buying/fabricating spacers, but then I remembered I've replaced speakers in every vehicle I've owned and not once have I put the factory speakers back in, so with that in mind I decided to use the factory speakers as spacers.

Yeah I did that with mine. A bit of fiddling around hacking the speakers out but at least they slot back in nicely. In the front I used two mdf spacers each side as I could get one at the required depth at the time. Degree of difficulty was about the same either way so after that it's just weighing up the cost of the spacers.

I can't take the credit, I knew I saw the idea somewhere around here a while back, looks like CD pointed me in the right direction without even knowing it.
