Spare accessory socket 2016 MQ

Spare accessory socket 2016 MQ

Postby samsav on Fri Jan 26, 2018 4:12 pm

I am looking for a power source (ignition) to power a relay at the rear of my MQ Triton Cab 2016.

Any thoughts?

I was hoping to utilise the spare accessory socket under the vehicle near the left wheel but can’t seem to get power out of it. Am I doing something wrong?

Did you fit the fuse and relay?

Accessory socket at the rear? Sounds like the socket for the trailer harness, probably missing links in the loom.

What are you trying to supply would be the obvious question?

If its something in the tub, I'd run a dedicated fused supply & earth from the battery and switch it with a relay controlled by an accessory supply, say the ciggy lighter, etc.

RHK, the MQ is generations ahead of our MLs. It has heaps of little features like accessory power to the tub (see circuit diagram in my post above). You should just sit down and read through the circuit diagrams - it's a revelation.

But then Mitsubishi forgot to tell anyone about all this stuff.

Hi NowForThe5th,

Thanks for your response. I tried to find the fuse and relay locations to see if they where already installed but could not work it out.

Any chance for some extra guidance?

Thanks again!

OK, first, as an ordinary member you can post pictures by using the [img] function and linking to an image stored somewhere else on the internet. Generally these images should be in the jpg format. Since the images on the online manual site are in pdf format they won't show in the thread, although the link can be followed (this is a PITA for readers so should be avoided). imgHOSTR (link at bottom of every NewTriton page) was developed specifically for NewTriton and sister sites and is both free and convenient, a worthy replacement for Photobucket. Platinum members have the option of uploading direct to NewTriton, the way that I've uploaded images here.

Now, back on topic. Samsav, if you look at the diagram I posted above you'll see that the relay is marked as D417. This tells us that it is located inside the cab and, looking up the manual you'll find this drawing which shows the exact location.

Again, from the diagram, the relevant fuse is No. 6 on the instrument panel junction block. So....

Yes, I know the picture is for LHD. There is no picture for RHD.

Not long after I bought the MQ and the initial service, I asked the workshop foreman and service manager about this to save me searching for plugs etc and both looked at me like I had two heads, and said I'm the first person to ask this.....this is also the same response I got when mentioning the seat rattle, vibration etc.
I'm a sparky but not an autoelect, so other comments they mentioned regarding the wiring etc were just plain bull****.
Thankfully we have a terrific forum and great member input, also thanks 5th for diagrams & wiring info. :)

The manufacturers seem to have really tightened up the access to information about their vehicles. Back in the 80s, I bought all the relevant (genuine) service manuals for my Commodores from a regular technical book store, where you could also get the equivalents for most brands.

Over the years, information was virtually priced to make it unviable or only available to dealers.

Now days with cheap media, it would be easy to leave a 'manual' in the glovebox with electrical and mechanical information.

Hi all,

Just checked and both Relay D417 and Fuse 6 and there so not sure where the broken link is.

It seems that the harness leaves on D418 (frame wiring harness) and ends up at H-22 (Spare Accessory Socket).

Have you actually connected anything to it to close the circuit? If not it may not work till you do. Have had that happen a couple of times on the MN.
Yes... I'll have another beer.

Did you ever get this to work?
I’m about to try the same thing.

Also where did you bring the power into the tub?

Cheers

I have not had the chance to finish this off but I have attached a diagram showing how I run the cable into the canopy. Hope this helps!

Let us all know how you go.
