horn not working

horn not working

Postby SPB on Thu Jul 12, 2018 3:48 pm

Hi Everyone,

My horn on an MN has died. It started working intermittently then carked it. Both fuse and relay are okay. Any ideas before I proceed to tear things apart or spend $$$$?

Cheers

Beat me to it! Viagra is obvious solution.

Have you checked the horn itself?

Check with direct 12v.

power is fine, fuses and relays all good. I took off the horn pad and couldnt see anything wrong thinking maybe the clock spring is faulty. Put is back together and now the airbag light is one.

So now it will mean $$ just to clear the code.

As RHKTriton suggested, check the horn itself by connecting straight to battery via test lead (be careful - burn/fire risk if you accidentally short the test lead to ground!)
If it doesn't work or sounds weak, check the quality of it's earthing before replacing it.
Horns are high current devices so they need good electrical connections... on the 12V and earth side.

I replaced mine with a steeble magnum horn, high/ low and crazy loud, if you need my standard one ill see if its still bolted on there (been a long time since I've been under it and cant remember if I binned it or just left it there
