I have decided on buying the Narva 225s. (1 spot and 1 spread.)
But i have been tossing up between the clear lens or the blue lens. :roll: Is it just the blue lens produces a whiter light or are there other pros and cons? Any help deciding would be appreciated because i have been changing my mind every week for the last 12 months :roll: :lol:

i have the clear. they are supposed to be the better light. more spread and more distance than the blue. Also if i was buying again i would go 2 spot as i think the spread does do as much as it could. The spot beam is awesome.

I always thought the clear would throw a longer distance but the Narva tech sheet says they are the same :?

I have an old (2008) catalog which says the same as that, but when i mentioned that to my supplier he said that's not right and showed me the new catalog which shows them the same :?
So i dont know what to believe, have they changed or is it just marketing hype.
But i dont think that will make a lot of difference out on the road, I dont think my eyes will see that far anyway. :lol:

Also I got clear as I plan on a hid conversion for even greater light and the clear is much better for this.

It's called "marketing" boys. No one can really verify 850m vs 950m so I reckon they just say they are the same.

I have both lenses Matt so if you want to see them, we can go out somewhere and fit both pencil beam, both broad beam and then one of each ;)

I had both pencil at first but found the extra distance to be a waste. So I bought spread beam lenses.

It's easy to verify the output in lux at any given distance. Problem is not that many people have the right meter. Any filter, even clear, will reduce the output from a light. Changing the filter to blue, and therefore increasing the "colour temperature" will significantly reduce the amount of available light. Here's a little table that demonstrates this:

4300k = 3200lm (lumens) - OEM standard white with a slight yellow tinge
5800k = 3300lm (lumens) - Like sunlight
7000k = 1390lm (lumens) - White with noticeable blue tinge
8000k = 780lm (lumens) - Blue look

These are taken using HID bulbs (and results do vary a little by brand etc.) but the progression is obvious. More importantly is the comparison to a standard halogen bulb which outputs around 1100 lumens. Notice how at 8000K the light output reduces by more than 75% to actually less than a standard halogen bulb.

Moral of the story is that while blue filters may improve visibility in certain conditions (there's a degree of subjectivity on this) they do so by actually reducing the effective output of the light. If you want maximum output then clean, clear lenses are best.

Take note , it takes about 30 seconds for light fingered scum bags to steal your lights ( mine lasted 1 week )

use locktight and a blob of weld on the end of the threads , IF they do get knocked off at least you will have the wiring loom for quick installation of your next lights

Thanks for all your help everyone.
NFTF that table confused the hell out of me but your explanation was great and explained it.
Shane I would have loved to take you up on your generous offer but I think we are running out of time before the we leave for our trip. I did get one of each so if I don't like one I only have to buy one new lens not two. So i did learn something off you. :lol:
As for security I will just have to take the risk. It is locked up in a garage every night so that should help.
I decided on the combo in clear and I may upgrade to HID further down the track as UAV suggested, if need be. I'm told it's only about $140 to do so.

Hi guys,
sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have a question about LF 240s on a stock MN GLXR nudge bar.

My Triton arrives in a week or so. I've ordered MItsu's 'genuine accessory' driving lights, which turn out to be LF170 Strikers, locally supplied by TJM.

Now, here's the funny bit: I went to TJM to have a look at these lights, and I like the 240 Blitz or XGT better. The guy I talk with there says they're too wide and won't fit onto the nudge bar :!: WTF?
Call me a sceptic, but I find this hard to believe. Does anyone know of any issues relating to fitting 240s to a nudge bar? Noooob question I know, but please humour me guys. :oops:

So I search this forum, and lo and behold, there's a nudge bar with 240 Blitzs fitted. Thanks borngeek:

I don't think geek ever had the 240s on his nudge bar. In those earlier shots he had a set of IPF lights on and then he put the 240s on when he switched to the xrox. Having said that I can't think why they wouldn't fit together on a nudge bar. :? :?

I don't know if this rig belongs to a forum member, but these look like 240s.
