engine light?

Postby jordan_lagaluga on Fri Sep 11, 2009 3:56 pm

Hey guys, got my blanking plate from alex, cheers for that!, put it in, done the actuator mod and now my engine light is on, I also have a DP chip and 3' exhaust which never brought the light on before, whether they now have something to do with it? any suggestions? and is there any way I can get rid of the light without a scangauge? also theres no lose of power either so don't know?

It'll probably go off overnight. If not, disconnect the negative on your battery for a couple of minutes. If it's still on.....

Well it couldn't last!

Been running with EGR blanked for about 10k now no probs & Boost lever adjust for a week also no probs.
However today it a bit warmer and the engine light came on when going uphill.

I had the battery disconnected for several hours but doesn't clear.

Is there alt way of clearing without scanguage, etc.

Interesting ob. As power has been off, the Multi display has reset. :ugeek:
Found when holding one of the unlabeled buttons that a small square appears in the top left of the scale in the centre graphic ( which does what???? )[ This is in the fuel display mode].
Do the numbers on these three bar graphs represent anything?

Back to the issue - On our old Astra & Peugeot, service lights can be reset by a key/button sequence. Is there possibly similar setup for the Tritons?

Also:

Read in some thread about boost mod box to trick ECU into thinking that boost is lower than actual setting. The cost seemed expensive ( $200 + ) with a lot of wire snipping - not good. :o

I see there is a pressure sensor connected to the manifold and located at the top of the firewall (with dark bluish plug). I suspect this is the guy who dobs in our boost mod. and probably with the warmer weather today a temperature input has tripped the threshold.

The device RHK is refering to is a boost cut module from Monster Triton. Not exactly a lot of wire snipping, One to be exact and you just put a inline join so it can be removed. It tricks the car into thinking its running about 15 PSI where as its really running what you want. (Mines running up to 23 PSI at the moment). Threshold for the engine light for overboost is 19.9 PSI if this helps.

But another thing, One of the members here did a test, and without an after market chip or computer the most the triton should be boosted is to approx 17.5 PSI before the air coming in is too much for the fuel provided.

Also, Scan Gauges are great. Really handy for not just resetting your engine light in 4 buttons but for all the information they provide too. At much better accuracy then that waste of space that used to be mounted in my dash.

The EGR system has no sensors in it other than the actual eletric motor that drived the valve. If you disconnect this motor/ valve acuator you may get a light?? i dont know as i have never disconnected it.

I've had a few lights that come and go (petrol not diesel). Only had it checked once with Hicko's gauge and it was minor that time.
It seems to go off whenever it decides - sometimes next start - sometimes 2-3 days later???

I personally wouldn't buggerize around with my boost too much unless I could add the fuel to make it work properly. Bugger leaning them out - especially when they are an oiler where the only thing that makes them go bang (ignition) is the fuel.

I would get a good tunable chip and boost controller and you will have a pretty quick truck - changed my mind on oilers when I had a test spin.

Who knows what a safe boost is when you're only adding air?

Well, went for about 30k drive on Sunday and after being parked for a couple of hours, started the beast and light had gone.

It will be interesting when some warm weather returns.

I am in the same boat. After doing the EGR plate and wastegate mod, just about every morning i get the engine light. P2413 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Performance) according to the scangauge. Must be a sensor somewhere.

I did the ECU reset and i think it makes no difference at all. If anything i think its a bit more sluggish of the line!

Now that's no fun....did you give it a torid 'learning experience' when you finished the warm up. I found mine got better the harder I nailed it.

P.S What about the Swains fishing report? :)
