erroneous odo...

Postby slimv6 on Fri Dec 05, 2008 4:25 pm

Hey folkages,

I noticed in passing that when I measure my7 Odo compared with GPS logging, my ODO under reads by about 8.5km every 100 on the GPS. I'm going to take the GPS as gospel, becasue the speeds are identical between the speedo and the GPS.

Anyone noticed this? I have BFG 31's and suppose that's why the speed is correct. but the ODO??

imagine, I would be on about 108000 when the clock gets to 100.. yeah, save kilos mrbitch.

Been discussed MANY times.

I noticed it too. took it as a bonus that the car will have done more than the odo will read when its time to sell

I've always found it odd with stock tyres the spedo is (as you say) about 8% out, but the odo reads accurate. Same as you, spedo now reads GPS speed and ODO will be 8% out (the right way!). If they know how far the car is going, why can't the calibrate the spedo out of the factory... not that I'm complaining, as it suits me fine!

CONSPIRACY!!!!! And some arse covering by the manufacturers. All an attempt to slow down the road users. They have to make the odo accurate on stock tyres otherwise they're still liable. Of course, no one would think of putting larger tyres on their cars.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

So if the ODO is reading less km than actual then our fuel economy should actually be better in real terms.

Yep, around 8% if you've put bigger tyres on and your spedo matches GPS.
