What are the oval shaped marks on the crank? I've tried looking through google images and it doesn't look like the oil pump drive and other stock pictures I can find of 4D56 cranks don't have these oval shape cuts.

Out of curiosity who's changed the front crank seal on 4D56?
What are the oval shaped marks on the crank? I've tried looking through google images and it doesn't look like the oil pump drive and other stock pictures I can find of 4D56 cranks don't have these oval shape cuts.
