Actuator vs non actuator front diff centers

If i have an actuated front diff, is it possible to put in a diff center from a non actuated diff? What is the difference in the internals and whats required with the swap?

Bit of a thread dig - have been wondering this myself. Seems easier to get hold of the non-actuator type these days. Also, with the non actuator diffs - are they constantly running with the front shaft turning, or is there another disconnection mechanism?
