Steel Ball in Transfer Case

Hi Guys,

2012 Triton GLXR Auto

I did a tranfer case oil change today and when i was draining the catch pan i noticed there was a small steal ball in the bottom. Does anyone know the function of this ball inside the transfer case? I can go into 4H without the centre locked ok. Havent tried 4H locked centre or 4L yet.

I found the diagram in the manual that shows there is a steal ball in there but it doesnt say anything about it.
