Metal shaving in rear diff

Postby jgoosen on Tue May 12, 2009 11:22 pm

I changed my rear diff oil today like I do every 10 000km. So today was the Tritons first diff oil change. So I pull out the drain plug and low and behold its has about half a tea spoon of metal shavings on it. (Magnetic plug)

So what can the cause be ? The diff oil seem relatively clean maybe bit dark,

Be handy if you had the choice to pay the extra $600 and get a factory locker

Why not send the oil off for an analysis to determin what metal is in the oil, this will then allow you to work out where the metal is coming from

No wonder we struggle to get them here. The sheep shaggers and Seth Efricens get them all.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

Unfortunately, you need to be a member of that forum so I can't see the pic. We do get the locker as an option but they tend to be a fair wait because there aren't many around. I was in too much of a hurry to get the triton so missed out. :x

Yep. The kiwi's get them standard too I think.

I could do it for sure without a locker. Just not sure I'd ever get it out.

Triton is the only one in Oz that it's even an option as far as I know. The rest are all LSD's.

90% of single cab and double cab 4x2's here even have a rear diff lock as standard :!: Wonder who made the decision that most Australian ute do not need diff lock ? So one was not doing their market research

We do not get VR, GLX-R etc here . We get one spec :geek: is a mixture between your VR and GLX-R

Aslo all New triton here are manufactured locally in Port Elizabeth

We always get the lower spec vehicles, whether it is Japanese, European...or by the sounds of it African

Always get top spec model vehicles with blanks on the dash where switches would be in O/S models.

Can't be many switches in the o/s models then. There's bugger all blanks in mine. :x The hilux must be something to see o/s then in terms of add-ons. The SR5 out here has shiploads of blanks.

No the Triton doesn't seem to have much missing compared to other vehicles I've been in - except diff lock std

Even got upgraded to a Fairlane Ghia hire car a year or so ago and had blank switches??
