Hi, I was wondering if the filters in either or both of these catch can's/oil air separator's can be cleaned?

If not, how long would one typically last? I know it will be different for all cases, but just a rough estimate, eg change every 20,000 kms .... etc.

Neither can be cleaned and going by what others have measured in their oil filters (and then caught in jar) I would say circa they would last 9-12 months

Thanks for the reply Robert.

Just one other question, I know you have answered it previously, but do both filter's perform exactly the same?

I just ask as I wish to confirm if the only difference is in the composition of the housing and filter casing (metal or plastic).

Regards,

Just fitted my Chip It catch can.
The guys at Chip It got it to me extremely fast, top service. And the product aint bad either ;)

25 mins to install and we were ready to go. Looks fairly neat as well. Might make a better bracket later to look more factory.

My understanding is that instead of blocking off the EGR, you use this to filter the oil and carbon out instead ?
Is that correct?
It looks so simple.
Is this an MN or an ML?

Brand new MN 2.5HP. 600kms on the clock :D

It will filter the crankcase fumes which carry oil, recirculate into the intake via the turbo.

So this will stop oiling air coating the turbo and the intake manifold. It will help reduce carbon sticking inside the manifold yes, but to completely stop the carbon issue you need this mod and an EGR blank.

Im still deciding on the EGR blank, if I can do it without hitting limp mode and without any other mods apart from the plate itself I'll be doing that also.

Can do Robert.

Give me a day. I took these pics with a phone and they are no where near high res. I'll break out the camera and send them off.

hey dave,

the can was $69 online from supercheap auto and i copied boostedbmw and put stainless steel scourer in the tank the inlet pipe i extended with some copper tube to go to the bottom of the tank , the gas needs to get thru the s/s to the top and to the outlet its a brilliant but simple design, another thing is its a 750ml tank the others are 400ml also the top comes off via the recessed allen head bolts, mate i looked at making one but for the sake of $70 i couldnt be bothered you just need to make up adaptors for the different pipe sizes yes looks flash aye , and ive had it in a week done about 200klms with it on now the reason behind the clear tube is evident now film of oil on site glass tube and inlet hose but bammo not outlet tube :D :D :D

PROBLEM FIXED NO OILY RESIDUE GOIN IN TO INTAKE MANIFOLD

no because even mits admit this is the only way of solving the problem and i asked the dealers about this and they wanted me to fit this and they are curious as to how much oil will be in the can after 5000klms the service manager and workshop manager all agree on this fix 8-) ive taken out egr blank cause of limpy, but solved it with catch can :D

Just be careful the tube isn't too long, you don't want the waste oil level reaching the inlet tube. But yes a good idea to maximise filtering.

Kegsy,

Install looks schmick. From where did you get the metal bracket which connects the can to the [insert proper name for 'plastic thing' here]?

Just a bit of scrap I had laying around in the garage mate.

You can buy it in the local hardware shops / plumber supplies.

Normally used by plumbers / sparkies to hang pipe saddles and electrical wiring housing channels from ceilings in factories etc.

Not sure what the name for it is is however, sorry. Someone else here will surely know.

Looks great but.....
this might be a silly question  , but would it have been better to have the shorter hose (which the fumes travel) and longer hose(which the oil travels) the other way around as not to get oil sitting in the loop. :?:
The only reason I ask is that I will be putting one on soon and thought it might be better :?
