gearbox

Postby friton on Thu Mar 25, 2010 8:34 pm

Just bought a 2004 trayback triton, 2.8td, had a good look underneath and noticed on the gearbox, drivers side, there is an "inspection hole" about 40mm by 60mm looking into the clutch. At the moment there is nothing covering the hole, should there be a plate or some sort of plug covering up this hole? Its a 4wd and i cant see how this can/should be open. Any information would be grateful...

i think you are talking about where the clutch fork goes through the bell housing. if so there should be a rubber boot there to stop any debris. i had to replace one on my old nissan ute. was pretty cheap i recall and got it from nissan genuine parts.
