I was looking at front only...a bit more expensive fitting I think...$2,080 fitted....including compressor and fitting.

I can get the quote and itemize it a little bit if needed, but figure total price is quite good?.

Opposite lock couldn't get close and I showed them the quote and they were shocked at the low cost of the locker itself...$200 cheaper they reckon so you've done us all a good deal mate

Postby fridgie on Thu Dec 23, 2010 8:03 am

Cmon mate!! Use the search......just kidding ;)
I'd go rear locker, less strain on cv, no steering loss, cheaper??

Heaps of info and for and against in here viewtopic.php?f=22&t=6773&p=116308&hilit=Diff+lock#p116308 bit of a pain to sift through but should help ;)

EDIT DUE TO POOR FORM

I'd do a Homer here, and go the front. Get the best of both worlds that way, an LSD in the rear for the 90% of the time you spend on-road and a combination of LSD and front-locker off-road. I think you'll be alright with the front locker, provided you remain aware and take care when using it.

Let's test them CV's I reckon ;) will be good to compare as there are heaps of rear locked Tritons around..

I have a price of $2,084 + GST Fitted - including compressor/inflation kit and fitting for your reference....

Almost as much as my unfitted sahara bar

Front. If you get crossed up with LSD rear you'll always have some drive to the rear wheel on the ground (more with handbrake) but open front means drive goes to wheel in the air. Add front locker and, hey presto!, drive to both ends. Plus benefit of LSD on road. When scrabbling for grip going uphill it's always the fronts that struggle, either because it's slippery or lack of articulation means you lift one.

CV's break, sure, but you really have to be trying. Front diff lock means you can crawl up so less risk for the CV's. Especially if you have one of those dirty, smelly, oilburners with lots of low down torque. Increased risk for CV's on a petrol motor because you need to be a gear lower to be in the torque band and therefore revving higher. Higher risk for manuals too because autos let you feed the power more gradually. I don't think that the Triton CV's are inherently weak, very few mentions of busted ones.

Thanks for that Daryn...good to have a mod handy

Yeah I reckon the price is pretty fair...need the car for 2 days.

I used Daryn's mates parts pricing he posted up and the guy just agreed to match it...probably could have saved maybe another $100 on the strength of that but businesses need to make a profit and I'm happy with the price.

Same reason why I was going the XROX bar...besides it looking the best :P it's $1,195 inc GST - fitted.

Sorry off topic again

i was close to laying money down on a front locker (i have rear factory locker) but a wise moderator talked me into a winch instead. ;)

i think that was a good idea as i have a winch bar already - oh sometimes we get caught up in the 'group buys' :P (who else has stuff in their shed they bought in a moment of camaraderie and never fitted :?: :?: ...or is it just me)  .

front and rear lockers can't get you out of everything...where as a winch should.

looking forward to Coffs Homer and the 'ultimate test' - state of origin - on the track. ;)

Not just you Snowie. I'll put my hand up as well

Anyway. Twin lockers can get you into situations that you shouldn't be in, very quickly. Suddenly the car is a lot more capable than most drivers.
