Triton Brake Upgrades - Rotors and Calipers

Postby borneo_triton on Wed Mar 18, 2009 3:57 pm

This thread is the result of merging a number of threads which essentially dealt with what can be actually done to improve brake performance on the Triton.

There are other threads that have similar information to this one. They are in the Group Buy and Ultimate Suspension areas of the forum.

i am new to the mod scene, having just bought my first car last year.
i know that the brakes on the triton is sufficient enough,
but is it possible to change from a front disc-rear drum to a disc-disc upgrade?
what are the pros and cons?
and if there are such upgrades, can you recommend which brand suits best?
thanks

hey bro, sure thing.
we have a full disk brake converison kit with two independent single piston calipers.

the rotor is 330mm vented. comes with cermaic brake pads,

we also have front rotors and caliper upgrades to.

check out my shed profile to see the example of it on my triton.

Ceramic brake pads would be a major overkill.
I believe they don't work as good or better than normal pads until they are hot as buggery - also squeak loudly until up to temp I believe??
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

actually these cermaic brake pads, are made for street use, with temp rating not over 400*C,
they are made and designed for the street, brake feeling is greatly improved.

they are at the same time a little noiser, but by no means are they over kill esspecially when the brakes on our trucks are just the bare minimum, and at the same time due to the street range degree rating of the pads, the response at low speeds and traffic is still acceptional.

they are slightly squeaky, not much. but then again who hasnt even seen a exotic car brakes not squeak.
there is always a trade off when getting better brakes.

Thanks Monster, it is ever surprising how quickly new technology from the military, aerospace and racing industries are now making it to production vehicles and aftermarket performance suppliers.

Used to be 10 years before you even saw the most basic new materials and components modified to suit road users.

I think the MotoGP and superbikes are leading the way in this regard. Latest production bikes are virtually last years race bikes.

Wish I was 20 again

I dont recommend slotted rotors for off road use the slots fill with mud or dirt.Instead of wiping the pad surface it wears it out dont fit slotted or dimpled unless you are just going to use it on road.Mike

Has the rear brake upgrade progressed at all?

Is it possible to look at again with the introduction of the PB?

there is a company in Thailand, that produces the RunStop range of rotors and they have a bolt-on kit rear disc conversion kit for the Triton.

However, I think there is a need to run 17" rims at least, to clear those large rear disc.

I think the rear disc rotor conversion is a good idea if done properly. Does this Thai company supply aftermarket master cylinders to suit? It’s my understanding that fitting rear disc calipers will result in a low brake pedal because of the additional fluid displacement required by the larger caliper pistons. To counteract this, you would need a master cylinder with a fast fill valve set up for 4 wheel disc rotors. I haven't looked into the specifications of the Triton yet, but maybe you can use the master cylinder from the Pajero ;)

I will try to get some info from the local supplier.

There are a few Toyota Yaris converted using the RunStop conversion system.

it now STOPS again!

Postby trouble on Mon Jan 31, 2011 6:08 pm

Well today I trundled down the F3, then M2 then M7 then Hume Hwy all the way to Ingleburn, the home of ULTIMATE SUSPENSION.
Meet with our friend Brendon who greeted me so nicely, (I was a bit scared) anyway, handed over the keys to my (the Mrs) Triton. I walked back out up the road got myself a coffee and returned with coffee in hand. Sat back while my new 4000 seris rotors and bendix pads were fitted, a few short hours later I handed over the magic stuff (money for you slower blokes/gals). I jumped back in and drove out the driveway and low and behold the Triton now STOPS and very well I might add.

A big thank you to Brendon oh and Ken from Ultimate Suspension for their service and expertise wich is second to ..........well none!

If you havent done this to your beloved Triton all I can say is get it done it is 10times better then OEM shite!

Again thanx Brendon. :D
