Anyone used a HiLift jack on thier ML yet?

Postby ArrowsWA on Tue Aug 12, 2008 7:25 am

Just got me free Hilift from the 4WD action subscription, no idea of the best points for jacking purposes (except the people who got the TJM front / rear bars with the built in recovery cut away)
So in this case assume ARB bar and stock rear step, Anyone help me out here??

me thinks youve got no chance of using it at the moment ;)
Grammar: Lesson 1- Capitalisation.

Capitalisation (n), is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

My ARB bar has hilift jacking points.
Maybe you could jack off the towbar some how

ArrowsWA

As far as i know you can get attachments for the high lifts so they can be used in different situations.

I have also seen an attachment which fits over wheel hubs and allows you to lift from them.

Thats the spot Arrows, either side of the winch fairlead opening. Yeh not sure if you can get something that slips into your gooseneck to suit a hilift jack. Would be a good idea, would be easy to make something

Without the tow ball in the tow bar, I recon you can jack off the receiver. I thought all ARB bars had jacking points.... Otherwise look for the rubber mounts either side of the wheels, never looked at triton points.

How about this I bought it on friday from TJM for $60 the main body is made from a piece of billet and rated at 5tonne and it came with the bow shackle rated at 4.7tonnes.
Converts your towbar into a good recovery point and you should be able to use a highlift jack in shackle.

Hey King Thanks
I bought one of them ages back from super-creap auto, as a rear tow / recovery point was $40 or so can't remember rating but was pretty high on shackle and the billet

FYI: I have one of these recovery hitch receivers and they do not fit into the ARB rear step towbar. The billet steel section is not long enough!
:(

Some of the NewHilux guys have had some longer custom ones made up to suit the rear ARB bar.

Freestyler
my supershite auto one fitted (hole a little off center but went in ok) with a little fiddling and use of a after market lockable pin, even used it to snatch out a bogged GU once at Hammy bay

How much is the overall towbar rated for - this little attachment looks great but is the towbar ok for the same weight/rating?

I pulled another X-Trail out of a sand bog with my own exy once and we used my tow bar as a recovery point - but I have always wondered if it was the right thing to do (there are no other points mind you).

Just absorbing 4wding bits and pieces - excuse the ignorance. 8-)

I reckon the tow bar with the attachment would work fine to jack from. Haven't looked close at my towbar lately but even without that couldn't ya slip the hilift into the ball receptor and jack there. as long as the receptor extends out behind the back of the tray. Not sure if it does. I'd like some thoughts on lifting the front in standard condition wiht no B/Bar. Not much to jack to there.

Naff
you can see a picture of this hitch attachment on my profile, the tow hitch reads 2.3 tonne 4WD's less for 2WD's, capacity with 180kg tow ball down force weight, but I reckon for using as a towing point nothing else on the vehicle would be stronger.
bear in mind 180 kg down force is a lot (if you can lift the trailer frame on by yourself you should be alright)

I'm a fourby noob so could someone explain why you'd jack off the wheel when normally you're jacking so you can access the wheel? Is it just to get out of a bog by placing solid rocks under the stuck tyre?
