Just out of curiosity can you ask your boys what they think about the EGR system on the Tritons. or any vehicle for that matter

Their personal opinion, not the mitsi tech in them

I am by no means up to speed with it, but the best explanation i have heard is on EGR is like eating your own s#!t and expecting to perform 100 %

Wow, it is a heavy fine! :|
I´m in my third diesel refill after blocking the mean valve, no changes in the first two thanks, but a 10% better mileage this time. From 11 liters every 100 kms, to just 10 liters. I don´t know what to think, this happen just after I pour a diesel treatment from Lucas, 10% better mileaje!!

10l/100kms Yes!!!!!

I was speaking to a mitsubishi service manager recently who advised me that they have developed their own EGR blanking plate however their plate has a small hole (didnt specify the diameter) just to let a little pressure through to avoid the ECU errors.

Can you please elaborate on your story, so many members on here will want to hear of this, are you suggesting an official EGR Blank?

Wouldn't the small hole in the blank just clog with carbon over time? Or is the constant flow enough to keep it open?

Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing if it was somewhere that was easier to clean than the manifold we're trying to protect? :?

I'm looking into it myself and hoping the dealer will fit it to my triton, I actually have a blanking plate in their at the moment but would like to have the dealers blanking plate fitted, atleast it puts the responsibity back on the dealer then

Agreed, but it negates the need for the hole if its just going to block up anyway. Might as just run the full blank.

But if it stays clear, it could be a good way to drastically reduce the speed of the contamination.

hole method

Have to agree with you Alex..
I think the small hole (may be around 1-3 mm) idea would probably stop anyone getting persistent codes or limpy`s with a plate installed.
Has any one tried this yet.

I still have only had one code 1 year ago :D

Alex suggested this first and from memory someone tried it and still got a limpy... its a lot of pages but its in here! (likely in the first 10 from memory - but my memory is BAD)

scare mongering that they will pick up a EGR block is just what it is.. scare mongering... so many smoking diesels out there that are full of carbon and giving off far more pollution at idle because of it.. I am sure mitsu has sent a internal mail to stop SOME of their dealers from suggesting AND/OR fitting. Basic corporate arse covering ;)

common sense fellas (and ladies).. thats my opinion :ugeek:

Re: Closing the EGR Valve

just fitted my egr plate today (thanks to GLX-R Alex), then went for a 120km drive. no limpy but a fair bit more low down torque. one thing that i did notice is the engine management is now reporting inlet manifold pressure of as low as 91kpa (at idle) which is down from 100kpa when the egr was open. i dont know if this would be the cause of the limp modes because its 10% lower pressure than standard so i cant imagine that it would be allowed to go much more than that before registering a code at least.

When i got home i then decided to install the chip that had been sitting on my desk unopened for a few weeks now. To my surprise the installation of the chip didnt do anything to the low manifold pressure so there goes my theory of low pressure causing the limps??

on another note, can anyone tell me what 100 to 190kpa converts to as a psi? from what i can figure out its only 12psi which would leave me alot of room for improvement in the boost area??

100kpa = 14.5psi
190 kpa = 27.5 psi

remember 101kpa is normal atmospheric pressure at sea level. ie: the pressure it should say when the engine isnt running.

so that would mean that im only making 13psi of boost then. from memory that seems a little low, i thought stock was 14.5 - 15psi?? can anyone confirm this for me please?

14.5 psi is supposed to be the norm from what I've read on these forums. Tighten the nut on the actuator rod of the wastegate & you'll get about 2psi more.

The thread about boost and actuator mod is here

again GLXR-Alex pioneered this. (and documented it perfectly 8-) )
A lot of discussion relating to atmospheric pressure, stock boost etc went on ;)
