Well i just finished installing a SS EGR blank, and expecting fault codes, limp mode, leaks and a big headache "nothing"... all good :D .
Had the inlet manifold replaced a 1000ks ago and did have a bit of carbon crap in their already (should have taken a pic  )
and i can notice just a little bit better performance, not much but a little better.
Will keep a eye on things and see how it all goes, very :D
Thanx to the NTN team for another great mod.
Allso replacing the catch can with a Provent soon so it should help even more. (never did like the can)
Cheers

Just a quick question fellas, What would you use to clean out the carbon build up in the EGR pipe...and around the sensor, i just get this need to take it all apart and clean it all out. Is this obsesive compulsive or whaaat!!!......MUST.... CLEAN.... CARBON.... CRAAAAP!!!

Acid bath fixes carbon ;) Just poke a hole in the MAP port with some small wire or a pick for a temporary fix.

guys,

after driving with my EGR valve blanked out for a few weeks, my fuel consumption is awesome.

getting an extra 50 - 70km extra per tank!

definitely a savings

......so,let me get this straight Fella's. I've got a stock engine MN, should I put one of these block off plates on?..... I don't want any fault codes and the like!... I don't use my steeler for servicing, so I'm not worried about that.

YES.

You won't know about any codes until you try it. If you do, just pull it out and read more here, the info is all here.

Closing the EGR Valve

Postby Kegsy on Sat Feb 04, 2012 7:05 am

You shouldn't get a code. If you do, do the throttlebody bypass mod and you definitely won't have any dramas then.

I ran it on a stock motor for about 10,000kms and no problems. After those 10k kms I modded stuff so it's a little different now.

If I do get a code, do I have to take it back to the steeler to get sorted? I'm not that great with stuff like that!

No. If it generates a code you can just remove the plate and it will clear itself in a few days. If it goes in to a limp mode just turn the car off for a couple of min and it should be fine.

Alternatively you can buy a OBDII reader such as a scangauge or ultragauge to clear the code or use a bluetooth OBDII adaptor with a program like Torque on Android phones to clear it. Even if you never have to clear it an OBDII reader is an incredibly valuable piece of kit to have.

The ECU will still log the code after the engine light goes away. The generic scan tool wont see it any more but MUT3 can. ;) Do it to often and the dealer will be scratching their heads.

Just out of curiosity does the code hang around in the history after you clear it with a scan tool?

If so they must think my throttle body is fu**ed

I've notice a few code in my torque/android history all created by mitsi mech. It make me wonder too about clearing codes and thinking all is good then the mech get a look at your history

Installed my EGR Blanking plate yesterday after 10000km on the clock (MY12) went for about 100km drive doing all sorts of things to try and get a CEL warning but no CEL light, so far so good.
If i get a CEL warning pop up i will provide an update with how many KMs and what the car was doing at the time. Thanks GLRX Alex for the plate, good quality cost effective product!! , cheers :D

IMO the car doesnt pull any harder and theres no real increase in speed, but I would say that the Turbo boost kicks in earlier, which gets you off the line quicker and upto speed earlier.

I also have an ultragauge hooked up, does anyone have any idea at which gauges you could monitor to see if there is any measurable difference in performance. Im keeping an eye on my fuel consumption to see if it improves or not.
Cheers.

mmm my ML 3.2 is at 85,000 with no blocking plates etc and have not had any surging, limpies or errors. I still have original manifold as well and get around 560-600 k's running around town on 32's on hwy runs i can get over 600.

Im thinking about getting a blanking plate but as ive never had any issues at all with the truck im thinking why should i bother at the moment when it hasnt given me a single issue so far in the engine department....

Pull the hose off the throttle and have a sticky into the manifold.
