okay, so i'm still trying to figure out where the MAP line is. but from the description you guys have already made it seems to be the easiest compared to drilling a hole on the butterfly flap of the TB. But which line is the MAP line?

I have just installed my unifilter and removed my EGR blank (6mm hole) and I seem to be getting about 1.5l/100klm better fuel economy. I have been getting v high 12 s. Is this all normal and to be expected ?

all standard running gear, tyres etc just ARB bar and hardlid.
Not bad for an old bloke

The red line is the vacuum tube to tee into.

No worries cookoy! I'll take credit for posting the diagram from the manual, but I didn't know either until srb helped me out.

There's a whole separate thread about that - search MN workshop manual and it should turn up for you.

I have the Workshop Manual CD. It doesn't have part numbers though. :(

Sorry I assumed that was what he meant since the image above that post was from the workshop manual. Not sure there is such a thing as a parts manual. There is a database program though. I think it might be called ASA or something like that. Not freely available AFAIK.

Could be the new filter contributing to the better fuel economy? The fact you had the hole in the egr blank would point to to the air filter unless the hole in your blank was blocked with carbon?

Just measured another tankful after installing the one way valve. So, for two trips last time, the one way valve brought down economy post-blanking from 11L/100kms to around 9.5L/100kms. This I reported a few weeks ago.

Just filled up again, after 560kms, of which 50:50 city and country (@ 100km/h) it used 62.55 litres, or 11.1L/100kms. :x

????? :?

I don't get the variation difference. Driving style hasn't changed, all other factors pretty much constant.

Could it be different fuel sources? Some diesel is better than others?

Still seems strange to me - with some people reporting better economy both highway and city after blanking, others saying better around town but worse on highway, and mine that at the moment appears somewhat more random.

Anything that can be done here, or do I just need to suck it up and come to terms with my triton using more than others? Percentage wise, it is sooo vastly different from many others on here. :?

You're still getting way better economy than me even on your bad runs.

How about driving style?
I'm sure you drive just fine but a few things can make a big difference if they become a habit.

RHK found he saved 1.5L/100km by changing up at 2,000rpm and I'm sure, using light throttle.
That gives good acceleration for normal driving and drops you back above 1,500rpm each time you change up to keep it on boost.
Keeping it down to just over 100kph max helps because they start to chew juice over that with wind resistance and revs.
Driving with minimal brakes so you anticipate slowing down with just engine braking, that you're off the throttle much earlier and don't waste that fuel dumping heat through the brakes.
I often drop to 1,000rpm in 2nd and 3rd and it pulls quite happily.
If you already drive like that and get 11L/100km then you really do have crap fuel consumption

Filling up at different pumps can make a difference with a slight angle meaning more or less goes in the tank and the pump might shut off a bit earlier?

I bet if you drive consistantly and use the same pump stopping at the first click[when it's due] you will find steady results.

Some fuels are better than others. I've found that the BP diesel tends to give me a bit better economy. Regular caltex is pretty good but for some reason mine burns through the Vortex (premium) diesel faster than the regular stuff :?:

The other thing I've found is that if you run a dash of Injector Cleaner every 10K, you'll get crap economy for that tank, but it'll pick right up again after that. My guess is the crap economy is because it's burning all the crap that would normally be stuck in the fuel lines, rather than just the diesel itself. Doesn't sound ideal, but it keeps the car running efficiently IMO.

See the build up of my old Triton here.

So many things can affect economy, and measuring tank to tank is useless. Thinks like temperature, headwinds, traffic flow, driving style, etc will vary on each and every trip.

You are better off measuring over 10 tankfuls with, and 10 without to get a more relevant average statistically.

The old bloke who was doing 80 in the 100 zone may have saved you fuel over a coupla km, and following the truck saved you more etc....... see where I'm going.

Yeah I agree too many variables to make accurate fuel consumption test... I do about 400km per week and fill up mostly from the same pump and I can see anything from 10.4 to 12.6  I'm happy with that and as long as my truck's running smooth and powerful. I don't give a toss if some nerd tells me their getting 8.1's

Ditto!
Got a plate from WOFTAM and installed on Monday after my 30000km service.
I can't believe the difference. :o
Feels like I've installed another Sprint Booster. 8-)
Has reduced the lag significantly. It's really surprised me.
I swear the turbo spools up a few hundred RPM earlier. Is that possible?

Great result.
What is the filter you used after the one way valve?

Looks perfect for the job. :D
It would be good to lock that combination in for everyone in the future. Perhaps if we refer to your pic?

Were they both 4mm barbed fittings? I noticed you didn't use any clamps and you wouldn't want to blow the valve or 'T' off with 25psi boost.
I hate to imagine what the consequence of the MAP reading close to zero at high boost would be? :?

If you end up fitting clips could you update the pic to keep it safe?

Yes mate, very good point. I was in a bit of a rush when I did it.
The 'T' is actually also an aquarium part and isn't barbed so I'm taking a bit of a risk at the moment. I'm not sure if there are valves with a barbed stem but a few clips would definitely be safer.
I'll head out to the auto store tomorrow, get a proper barbed vacuum 'T' and some clamps.
Will post a new pic when done.

There are valves with barbs on Ebay.

http://tinyurl.com/7syuwqw

It doesn't matter if the filter isn't barbed because it should never get any pressure anyway.

I could only get a 5mm 'T' at an auto store when I tried to source the parts.
Mine has never thrown a code with the blank after 40,000km.
