ML tail shaft centre bearing replacement

Postby Zookstar1 on Thu Feb 12, 2015 7:43 pm

Hi all, tried searching for it but nothing comes up,
My centre bearing on my tail shaft is on its way out, growling noises when cruising along feathering the pedal.
Serviced it the other day and noticed the rubber has split in several places so think it's time to replace it.
Anyone done it before?. Remember reading something on a page where they said its a pain to replace the thing.
I checked with mitsi and they quoted me just 320 bucks so it can't be that bad.
Scored a new bearing from repco today for 95 bucks so just need to know if I need a press to push it on.
Have access to it but need to know if I do need that press so I can do it in the weekend when I can use the missus her buzzbox :D

You have to take of one off the uni's to remove the bearing.
sure you want to try.
I got mine done at a driveline specialist.
took about half an hr.
I love cats, but I couldn't eat a full one!

I've done plenty of uni replacements on suzukies, these puppies are a tat bigger :D
Just a pain if the needles drop out of the things.
Is that needed to get to the big nut behind it?

Pretty easy job i did mine in a bit over an hour just separate one of the uni joints and then you can get the bearing off with a chisel and hammer

$320 and you will no doubt have to do it again at a later stage. I got mine made into a one piece shaft and runs smooth and sweet with no wobble and with the lift it is great. It cost me about the same price, but my centre bearing will never need replacing.
