WIP Wheel offset bible

The following is a listing of the wheel sizes that comes standard for the Triton; other vehicle makes with the same stud pattern; and wheels from 3rd party manufacturers. It was compiled to assist other Triton owners in wheel selection.

The following list only includes 6 stud on 139.7mm PCD wheels. The Triton is lucky in that the centre bore is the smallest in the market- all rims in 6 stud 139.7 PCD will fit (subject to other constraints)

Note that the triton rims are "stud centric" use the studs to centre and hold the wheel, such that the hub is not weight loading- but different rims require different wheel nuts- make sure the correct type is used.

BUT.....new info regarding steel rims and alloy rims in VSB14

Replacement wheels must be designed for the particular hub/axle and have the same bolt/stud pitch circle diameter and the same centre location method. The wheel nuts or bolts must have the same tapers as the wheel. Wheels with slotted bolt/stud holes must not be used.
Replacement aluminium alloy rims must be located on the hub/axle by the same diameter centre spigot as the original wheel, using suitable adaptor rings where necessary.
Wheel nuts and bolts must have a thread engagement length at least equal to the thread diameter, except where specified otherwise by the vehicle manufacturer.
Wheel spacers (or adaptors for dual wheel conversions) between the wheel mounting face and the road wheel must not be used unless fitted as original equipment by the vehicle manufacturer.
Modifications to disc brake callipers, hubs and suspension and steering components to enable the fitting of replacement wheels must not be undertaken.



To use this list successfully, you need to do the following:
1. Look up the wheel size and offset for your current vehicle. (note: If you have a GlX you can change to wider wheels. In this case, use the next model up as a point of reference- this may require flares)
2. Look down the list and find the wheel(s) with the same offset or lower.
Note the lower the number the wider the track
3. The wheel diameter and width is then up to you. There are various things to consider when choosing diameter and width, so I won't go further into this here.
4. Make sure you double check with the tyre shop or search through New Triton for other members who have successfully made a swap.

The list is currently incomplete. Please advise if you have something to add (including any corrections) and I will maintain this first post.

If something is not right please pm a mod- and it will be changed
also looking for pics on tritons of any of these rims- or rims that have been found to fit- along with a breif description of how they fit in the guards and rubbing or triming required. This will continue to be developed and can be as good as you guys allow.

Huge range of trick looking 4x4 wheels at Allied Wheels also.

They have the rim specs beside the photo so you can see what will fit after reading 4WD26's info above 8-)

No connection or anything, I just found they had probably the biggest range locally and heard the quality is OK too. Distributors in most places.

I've managed to get hold of a set of GU Patrol 16x8 steelies that fit the triton's stud pattern, but am unsure as to how bad the offset is? test fitted them and they work a treat, but the rim itself lines up quite nicely with the top of the guard. has anyone got any ideas on what sort of offset this is? or will i have to measure it out myself?

Could be a 0 offset as well. There was a change around the series 2 or 3 somewere. Better measure them Fraz

Can one fit a zero offset rim on the Triton ? Does anybody maybe have some pics of a Triton with zero offset rims ?? (pics from the rear/front of vehicle to see how much the wheels stand out ???)

Kwijibo and hommer run 0 offset rims but the width will determine protrusion outside the guards. You need to nominate a width

On the spicific rim, I can choose between 8J or 10J... So I would probably take the 8J...

The rims arn't the problem, it's the tyres that cause the grief. You should be fine with a 265 though any wider you'd be getting close.

I run +15 offset 8" wide with 265 tyres and it could be argued both ways on this point.

I am going to 285 on the same rims and they will stick out for sure

If you have a look in 4wd26's first post you'll see that he quotes me on P20 offset wheels and 265's. The fit is near perfect.

Hey guys, long time no talky!

Here's my calculations for new rims & tyres I plan on getting:

265/75/16 Maxxis Bighorn 764
16 x 7 sunnies (or equiv.) - 6 x 139.7 PCD 18+ offset

I figure by these calcs, they will be 99% perfect & not sit outside the guards, or scrub! 8-)
You can sit there complaining, or you can knit me some seat belts.

I run +15 offset on 8" rims with 265's. perfect combination and doesn't stick outside the guards. :D

Hey Adz! Welcome back! :D

I have 265/70R16 AT's on wheels with +20 offset. Sits just inside flares, near perfect. Mudflaps just cover the tyres too so doesn't look wrong from behind. There is a noticeable improvement in stability and handling too. The only drawback to the setup you're looking at is the weight of the steelies. They will affect braking performance significantly. If you can find a set of alloys that fit (and at the right price) they might be a better solution.
