WIP Wheel offset bible

Looking at a second set of rims to put some play tyres on. Found a set of 265/75/16 bfg km2 in good condition.

Seen a few sets of factory 16" steel wheels, doesn't seem like many people run with these, opting more for the Sunraysia style. Any reason?

Looks?
Range of Offsets?
Strength?

Would have thought using a genuine item would make life easier.

Yeah they do, just need a 5mm spacer for the front and they're all good. I have they fit then

But a spacer would be illegal which is why Geek only ever ran this combo offroad... right Geek?

Yes off-road use only, as illegal. Although you can't really tell there is such a thin little spacer in there unless you were really looking for it... rules are rules I suppose

Hi All,

A mate of mine has an MY14 MN GLX. At the moment he has the 16x7 alloys running 265/75/16 muddies. He wants to put above rims on with the same tyres. They are 16x8 +40 offset. From what I understand reading through the thread, this wont be an issue?

Can anyone give me a yes or no?

legally you are not supposed to make the wheel track narrower, which these will do ever so slightly.

more of a concern could be the brake calipers rubbing on the rim, depends on shape, but I would test before purchase

The wheels fit under the flared guards but the tyres that are on stick out passed about 15-20mm

did you have to change nuts or studs to run these ??? nissan alloys

The 17" rims do fit without touching

It is a problem with the 16" patrol alloy rims where they touch the caliper

haha did you read it..... i said they where nissan alloys not steel

so standard triton mn wheels nuts are fine for these alloys

I had the factory GU alloy 17' on my ML, loved the aggressive look but could never get the damn things balanced to my liking due to the offset. Tried numerous times, even balance balls and finger tightening. It also use to be aggressive with pot holes etc.Yes I also had to get alternate wheel nuts to fit them. Hope this helps .....

BTW I am back to factory ML 17' now.

No confusion, mate. The GU 16" alloy wheels do not fit - they hit the caliper. You could fit a spacer but that would be illegal for on road use (probably, for insurance purposes, off road too) but that shortens the available stud length meaning you'd need new studs as well which then would be too long for any legal wheels. Plus you'd need a set of nuts as well.

There are better options.

Can I run a wheel with a 114.3 centre bore even though the standard is 139.7. This would give me a few more options with offsets.

That could be interesting. Can you take a video of trying to fit a wheel with 4 or 5 holes with a spacing of 114.3mm to a Triton with 6 holes in a diameter of 139.7mm?

My bad, I thought the centre bore was the diameter of the centre hole not the diameter of the stud pattern.

The centre bore is the size of the hole in the middle of the wheel. However the dimensions you quoted are the PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter) which is the size of the circle, except for 5 stud wheels, that the wheel studs are on.

If you're talking about the centre bore then there are rings available which adapt the size of your wheel to that of the hub. If the size of the hole in the wheel is smaller than that needed then it can (usually) be machined out to suit.

The Triton is hub-centric, so the wheel, or the adapting ring, must fit exactly on the hub in order to maintain centring of the wheel.
