We get a lot of threads started for random tyre questions. In fact we have a thread dedicated to random tyre questions here: Random tyre questions
This thread is an attempt to provide an introduction to some of the information that already exists on the forum in the hope that we will see less random threads begun in future.
Tyre Survey
This thread contains more than 250 posts from users about their experiences of different brands and tread patterns of tyres used on their Tritons. It is a long thread but a valuable starting point for your tyre research.
Tyre rules
This thread contains links to external websites with guidelines for each state and territory as to what changes to width and diameter are permitted. At the time of writing the laws are different in various places and it is up to you to work out what you are comfortable with in terms of legality. Many forum members are running tyre sizes that might be technically illegal where you come from – so check the links or make your own enquiries (but don’t start a new thread).
Tyre/rim size calculator 1
Tyre/rim size calculator 2
Use these two websites to help calculate the size or compare different sizes of tyres. The first one also demonstrates in visual terms the difference in different rim offsets.
Rim reference thread
The wheels/rims/offsets reference thread.
Tips on searching tyre sizes
A long term member explains in easy terms how to construct a search for different tyre sizes – this post will save you time, you should read it.

Sand throwing wheels out of balance
The link title sort of gives this one away.
Larger tyres and the effect on odometers
An interesting discussion of the alterations to odometer and speedometer readings caused by increasing tyre size. There are several threads that traverse this ground.
Fixing inaccurate speedo
A thread which describes installation of a product from Jaycar electronics to correct speedo inaccuracies.
Wheel studs and rattle guns
A cautionary tale of the problems of tyre monkeys who over tighten wheel nuts. Includes details of correct torque for Triton rims and tools to avoid over tightening. Also details of part numbers for wheel studs.
Tyre & rim weights
A brief selection of stats on comparative weights of different rims and tyres.
DIY bead breaker
One member’s clever approach to breaking the bead on a tyre.
Non hub-centric steel rims
One of a couple of threads on the topic. The short answer appears to be that steelies are non hub-centric and that’s okay. See the earlier link above for tips on balancing steelies correctly.
Tyre sizes for the MN
One of about 50 threads touching on the topic. Includes some tyre sizes for ATs which are within legal parameters.
