Sorry mate....mis read that  A 285/75/17 is almost a 34" tyre. That will probably require a lot more work with inner guard massaging :?

Check this thread.
viewtopic.php?f=36&t=8586&hilit=simex

I know Ag9111 is looking at fitting a tyre that is 34" diameter...........4wd26 has just fitted on that is slightly smaller diameter. ;) See how you go :)

Just curious.

A 285/75 17 is actually a 34" tyre and with a 2" lift I believe you would have considerable rubbing regardless of the offset of the rims.

To go to a size that is nearly 15% bigger you will affect the gearing to the point where it is too sluggish and will increase your fuel economy by a huge amount. You would/should only consider a tyre that big as an off road only (2nd set) when you are mainly in low range. To get these tyres to fit would require a body lift as well as a 2" suspension lift.

Please Selwyn (you tyre guru) correct me if I'm wrong.

Ideally if you want fuel economy, you would be sicking with the factory fitted size of 245/65 17 or 245/70 16. Most on here run either 2 sets of tyres or go for a 265/70 16 (32") which is a good trade off. 33" is about the biggest you can go without serious lift.

Offset makes a big difference Hymie ;) Standard offset and the outside edge of the tyre will rub on full lock, a zero offset and the inside of the tyre will rub....which is i think the problem Kyle had with his monster tyres.

Speaking to Garth over the weekend, he is confident he can get a 34" tyre will fit with a +15 offset on a 16X8 rim...........I have put it out there now...so i hope for his sake he is correct

Selwyn has similar size tyre ATM (play set) without a body lift.....maybe still on the Prado rims??? which are +15 or +10 there abouts ;)

You are right though....no point except for a set of play tyres 8-)

We have a random tyre section guys, maybe you should browse the tyre area, plenty of threads there with the answers you are now seeking.

This thread does not seem to be about Pirelli tyres at all, but has moved on to km2's.

This thread will be locked or merged if not back on track, sorry.

Pirelli 265x70xr17 affect fuel economy ?

Postby Cowboy Dave on Mon Jan 30, 2012 7:26 pm

I've moved these latest posts into the random tyre questions thread - the whole point of this thread, which sits near the top of the tyres/wheels section so it's easy to find, is that any question about tyres can be whacked in here without creating whole new threads every single time.

I'm told they have a +39 offset on them does anyone know if I would have problems putting 265 /75/16 on the wheels later on more worried about offset thanks, on phone so its hard work looking through all threads thanks for any help

Trytoon, the offset on those wheels is almost exactly the same as the factory alloys at +38. You won't have any problem with 265's, in fact I'm running 265's on +20 wheels and still no problem. Lots of people here running that size.

Yeah you did but this thread we're now in is the random tyre questions thread where these sort of questions are best posted. As it happens the question you asked, or questions very, very like it, get asked pretty much every week - so we try not to have new threads every time if we can avoid it.

No drama, not everyone is here every day to see the patterns that we see. Besides I'm not great at the merging thing so a bit of practice won't kill me. ;)

I just got quoted $370 a corner for Mickey Thompson ATZ 4Rib :o :o :o

That kinda sounds pretty pricey to me or is that the kind of price I will be looking at??

Edit:- That was supply only not fitted or balanced and the Guy told me the price was already $40 off RRP

I was the same

4rib $370
FcII $400
Stmaxx $423

All LT 265/70/17 fitted and balanced
That was a Mickey T dealer so they could only give me standard prices on the coopers

i have a dilemma....

i want to increase my size of my tire... to either 245/75R16 or 265/70R16. obviously in the width that is the difference, which is what i want to know about.

1st q: which size would go guys go and why?

2ndly: I do mostly road driving with weekends off road to attend 'leisurely activities- such as general offroad driving, but more fishing, hunting, camping etc.... and then theres the old boys farmwork from time to time. I dont do a lot of mud or sand driving. currently i have maxxis 751's and they are DANGEROUS in the wet- cook wants me to get rid of them because of this. Im happy with this- new toys!!! :D

sooo ... my q is: which A/T tyre would you guys get and why? I have limited my choices to MT 4 RIB, MT 5 RIB, COOPER ST MAXX, or COOPER AT3. Also have been thinking about Bridgies and geo a/t-s- but not LT (LT construction is a must) in 265/70 (which is the size i've been thinking about getting).

I'd get the 265s for the wider on road footprint. But then I'd get the D694s in LT. Why? didn't think the coopers were worth the extra coin and the 694s got a good wrap on here. And in the 17 inch size I had there weren't that many tyres that equalled or bettered the load and speed ratings on the factory rubber.

This will only confuse you unfortunately as it adds more to the list rather than less :?

The only Cooper AT I'd consider is the Zeon LTZ, but as Dave says the Bridgestone D694 is a superb tyre on the road. I have them and will be buying them again due to the superior wet weather performance.

The LTZ may be a little better off road than the 694 though....

Why not LT? In the Bridgestone, I don't notice any difference...
