Camber after a lift

Camber after a lift

Postby Dylan 191 on Tue Jun 30, 2009 11:06 am

i have installed a dobinsons 50mm lift kit and now have rang a guy for a wheel alignment , he was saying something about having to shim some parts to get the camber back to normal

i thought this could be done with the cam style bolt in the lower left side of this picture

anyone have any experience with this ??

My understanding is that it doesn't change your wheel alignment at all - which I take to mean camber as well.
I was told this by 2 out of 2 suspension mobs. :?: and they normally try to make you get one if they can.
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

Wheel alingment and camber will change as you have changed the position of the wheel on the arc/radius of the suspension but it will be within the standard adjustment limits on the vehicle.
In comparison check out GLXRsilver's triton he has 75-100mm of lift and his camber change with the lift was extreme and he just had it adjusted.

I am not sure on where or how it is adjusted i just know it can be done, and it should not be an issue.
But that looks like the right adjustment nut.

Do you mean the camber will still be within spec limits or the limits available to adjust without spacers?

Strange that, because the owner of the business that I paid to fit the suspension (50mm lift) said don't bother when I asked him to do a wheel alignment, exactly the same as another place I got a quote and didn't really believe him.
Then I asked the guy actually doing the work to the car and he also said not to worry about it.

I'll follow this with interest as I may have been led up the garden path...my tyres still look OK. :|

I had a wheel alignment done after lifting mine. Not sure why I bothered! The front passenger tyre is wearing like a mongrel on the outside. Still, should spell the end of the stockies soon  and I'll be able to get something half decent and a more suitable size. ;) Might try somewhere else for the next alignment though.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

Should always get a wheel alignment done when you change anything in the front.
Mine had an alignment after my springs went in, and again after I had my strut spacers put in.

Greedy I scrubbed out the front left (outside) all the time on the MK.
Took it to 3 different places over its lifetime and always did it????

Edit: Must be a characteristic of the car

This was the exact response I got from the dealer when they told me they'd done a tyre rotation. I asked them why the same buggered tyre was in the same spot. Does a tyre rotation involve jacking up the car and spinning the wheels?

Tell them they are dreaming. There is a massive amount of adjustment available for both camber and castor. What the hell is up with these people or don't they give a sh*t :x BTW there are two ecc adjustment points on the lower control arm, one at the front as indicated in the photo and one at the rear......

yep- spot on, and i reckon any decent mechanic would tell you the same. when my dobi's went in, my mechanic already did the alignment before i picked it up, and without asking either.
