Front Swaybar Disconnect

Mine'll go full rebound one side - full compression on the other side when crossed up, so don't need it...........
And if it won't move forward - hit the switch for the rear locker........
Tip # 1 - Avoid stress & grief & low resale values with vehicles - do it once - do it right, buy a HILUX!!

Front Swaybar Disconnect

HC you'll find if you do a travel test with it connected and then disconnected there is that much diff and then if you had a disconnect system and your bump rubbers trimmed a bit, 2oo mm travel wouldn't be out of the question 8-) ;)

Front sway bar disconnects

Postby Jimy89 on Tue May 12, 2015 1:21 pm

I've been doing a little research and was wondering if anyone here has had some custom disconnects installed on their MN? I've looked all around an a few other makes have factory or aftermarket ones, and the few guys that have tritons just unbolt theirs. Was hoping maybe someone's done it and saves me making a few prototypes haha

I can't answer your question though I do remember reading a post about this from Fraz or Ultimate.

They said, if my memory still works, that when testing removal of the front sway bar made the vehicle perform worse off road.

You may get better up travel (limited by bump stops) though you lose the opposite side of the bar 'pushing' the strut down giving better articulation. Someone may chime in with the actual post or info to confirm this.

If not...

what about a heavy duty sway bar for the front?? I'm happy with the ride of the ultimate sus in the front but would like to lesson the body roll in the corners. any one no of an off the shelf job??

Have you got ultimate's sway bar in the rear?

I've thought about chopping the front bar and rigging up a sliding dog clutch arrangement.

This discussion never seemed to get too far so thought I'd give it a bump since I'm interested in something like a disconnect for the front but only if it's worth while. Opinions above seemed divided but no concrete answers.

Perhaps ADMIN can move this topic to suspension section as well.

I removed my front sway bar about 20,000km ago. Better flex up front and i can't really notice much difference on road, and i give mine a fair hiding haha

The MQ has a thicker front sway bar than the MN, it looks to be the same shape too so could be a straight swap with the D rubbers to suit

the sway bar doesn't push the opposite side down.... in fact does the complete opposite!!
