OME suspension ?

Postby Still-Lurking on Fri May 02, 2008 3:21 am

Does anyone run OME suspension ?

The lift is only 10mm front and 20mm rear ?
And they tell me this is so there's no problems with running gear.

I'll also be getting larger tyres (265/70 ish) depending on what comes on the new 17' rims and what's available in 17's.

Overall I'm hoping for a better ride and a boost in offroad ability without making like onroad hard.

Any comments ?

David.

OME suspension ?

I've been told the same thing by the local ARB dealer here in Townsville regarding the OME suspension.

A local mob here selling the Ironman product says they'll lift 'em the usual 2.5" or whatever.

So someone is telling lies. Would be interesting to know the truth.

So who are you going to believe?

Someone out to give you what you want, or someone who has a 25 year reputation.

Have a look out there, there is now more that just ARB (ome) that are stating the max lift (WITHOUT PROBLEMS- drivline vibrations) is lower than some of the other products.

You pay your money, you take the chance.
BTW though, Mitsubishi has a 10 year driveline warrenty- food for thought.

But I'll bet they'll void it if there is an issue and you have a lift....... :x

I don't feel like ARB were putting the hard sell on me.

They said the main benefit was in ride & handling and were honest about the amount of lift.

With the weight of a bullbar, canopy, drawer system and long range tank that little bit of lift would probably just bring it back to about normal.

I spoke to ironman a couple of days ago & they told me something similar to what someone posted on the 4wd action forum regarding lengthening the tailshaft and raising the gearbox & he said they were looking at doing something where they could drop the centre bearing to achieve the same result, from what I have seen on here the ironman does give a fair amount of lift which is probably making the shudder worse but if they can fix it or if the guy on the action forum is telling the truth then I'll be going the ironman. ARB told me the same thing about there kits but a workshop near me who is an agent for ARB/TJM has fitted a couple of OME kits to tritons & he says about 35mm

Still-Lurking - I, like bubbalucci, have an ome suspension fitted and also have about 35mm increase. Must say ride on and offroad is good. I have a slight vibration (not serious) although somewhere else on the forum its mentioned that the petrol version do'nt have this problem.

Still-Lurking.
Is this through the ARB dealer you mentioned earlier in another thread??? I know the relevance isnt there because we drive different vehicles but mines in for warranty on Monday for a 20mm sag in the front end, they are repacking it with strut spacers. I got a 50mm lift but it has sagged below 30 now, and Running the stiffest they have 884 Prados. The front end is heavy with all the goodies They are pretty professional and reasonable about warranty issues. Apparently OME dont like lifting IFS ends by 30mm or more but sell as a 50mm kit??? Good Luck.

OME suspension ?

My GLS DiD was bloody dangerous on poor bitumen roads. I got the OME suspension on today and the ride is taut but very controlled. No more pig rooting. I was told like others here of 10mm front and 20mm rear which suited me as I was after suspension control, not lift. It has actually come out at 25mm front and 35mm rear and guess what. That dreaded shudder has arrived.

I've had my OME in for a while now. No problems apart from the little shudder taking off for about a second or 2, doesn't happen every time but close to it. I guess 4wd26 sums it up the best. ;)

Jan-Dup, Barraxt & Bubbalucci

Your lift of 35mm does that include the 25mm from the tyres(265/75) so the suspension lift is only 10mm
or is the suspension lift 35mm plus the 25mm from the tyres so a total of 60mm over standard?

OME suspension ?

Hmmmm, I have been hesitant to fit OME suspension (even though we sell ARB gear) to my Triton as in the book it only states 10mm lift.

If everyone is getting about 35mm, I might look at getting a kit fitted and put some snake racing spacers in the front end to compensate for the bar/winch sag...and might still end up with a 2 inch front lift over factory height.

I have always seen an improvement in articulation with OME rear leaf springs, so only getting a 35 mm lift in the rear is ok with me.

Barraxt,
Isn't the GLS exclusively auto. I was under the impression that auto's weren't affected by the shudder due to the one piece tailshaft.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

It ain't pretty being easy!!

Mine was the last of the manual diesel GLS.

I have just added a couple of quick pickies of the height of the vehicle at 25mm higher in the front.
