Brand of diesel

I'm buying an 07 diesel and I'm wondering if any brands of diesel are better than others or are they much of a muchness nowadays ?

Yes the different brands are different but it also depends on the particular servo.

I find BP ultimate diesel (I believe it has the highestaverage cetane rating of all the commonly available diesels) to be the best in general but out of the two servos that I pass regularly that sell it, one appears to be better then the other even though it is theoretically the same diesel.

x2

I agree on both points. I use BP ultimate and of the two servos I use, the busier one has better diesel I reckon. Engine always seems a little quieter.

We don't have BP Ultimate diesel in this hick town

So I generally just use BP normal diesel, however I have found that when I do fill up at the Shell, I seem to get more ks out of the tank. Not sure if this is good or bad quality wise. Got a bad batch from Ampol in the old ute so I tend to swerve them now.

With my Lease I get a Caltex card and a BP card so I have a choice of those two... Down here in Vic, I get a much smoother drive and more km from Caltex...

Brand of diesel

I used caltex last week for the first time. Engines seemed much quieter and was working a good bit easier under load. Surprised at the difference. Better mileage too. Went from 10.4ish to 9.80...

That's here in Adelaide.

Caltex vortex is definitely good but I still find the bp ultimate better value. The vortex used to be better value but my local servos are charging a bit more for it now

In Melb today, Caltex Vortex diesel was 11C/L cheaper than any other brand in my area...

i have been using vortex pretty exclusively since brand new. had to get the fuel filter changed today @ 22000 k's because of surging . stealers service manager told me in no uncertain terms to cease using it and change to shell or bp to rectify the problem . he said they use an additive in their diesel that is causing them to replace heaps of fuel filters and as its a consumable it aint covered by warranty . just a heads up , take it or leave it 8-)
