P0089 after new scv

Postby Carl71 on Sat Mar 11, 2023 11:29 am

I got a code P0089 fuel pressure regulator "A" Performance, assuming this is from worn scv so I replaced with an oem quality aftermarket scv and reinstalled, cleared code and keeps coming back, goes into limp mode and won't rev past 2000rpm, can't get into mechanic for a relearn for few days, if this is the typical fix for it?

I've read that a OBD2 ELM <v2.1 with torque app can do a relearn and only cost about $10 is this true as this would be much cheaper than going to a mechanic. If a mechanic can even do it as my closest dealer is 50km away

Is this also fine to drive on if I do need to take to a mechanic, for the relearn it needs to be at operating temperature so assume it will need a bit of a warm up before even performing a relearn.

Is a relearn all that's nessasry? Or can another issue cause this?

Fun and games.

You won't need a relearn with a SCV, just a 'dumb' component actuated by fuel demands.

There is presumably a micro screen on the fuel pump inlet. Maybe there some blockage on this.

Have you replaced main fuel filter recently?

Then there's the rail pressure limiter. Maybe this has carked it.

filter is few months old.
any way to check rail pressure limiter?
also p0089 is related to SCV not rail pressure sensor?

You might have a dodgy connection on the SCV plug or faulty cabling then.

If you have the torque app you should be able to monitor the common rail pressure.

You haven't actually specified what model vehicle you have.

It's 2008 ml 3.2l auto

I am getting pressure will have to check again to give exact numbers,

Issue seems to happen at idling for over 10 seconds, can clear code and drive normally untill idles for about 10-15 seconds and code throws up and goes into limp then can't go over about 15-2000rpm.

I'll check and clean scv plug but I don't believe there is issue with the wiring

My understanding was that if the scv is worn and throws the code and then is replaced untill a relearn is done it will stay like that? The service manual states that a relearn must be done after SCV is replaced?

Mine is same in manual. Never done a deliberate relearn for SCV.

I'm pretty sure if the unit is left idling for around 15min, the E U performs it own relearn.

Was able to do an init pump valve (supply pump relearn) with nmps diag app ($10) and v2.1 elm327 obd tool which cleared code. App does allow sql aswell.
