Postby RUIDIDA on Mon Feb 27, 2012 10:51 am

I HAVE A 07 MANUAL TRITON AN IT HAS 2657017 ON IT AN AROUND TOWN IT GETS 500KM TO A TANK AN ON HWY IT GETS 550KM. BEFORE I PUT THE TYRES ON IT WAS GETTING 570KM. THEY ARE ONLY WRAGLERS S/A. TWO OF MY MATES HAVE SAME TRITONS AN THEY ARE GETTING 700KM AROUND TOWN AN 750-800 ON HWY ON STOCK TYRES. THIS CANT BE NORMAL OF MY TRITON ? ITS GOING BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE SECOND TIME. ITS HAD THE TOP AND BOTTOM MANIFOLDS REPLACED ON IT. THAT DIDNT CHANGE ANYTHING. NEED HELP

get the dealer to do a reflash, might help. But the bigger tryes will use more fuel simple as that. How much weight to you have on it ie bar work, winch etc, auto or manual as this make a huge difference as well, the autos have a terrible consuption compared to the manuals.
My ML with 265/75/16 cooper ST with all the fruit (manual) get about 600 on a HWY ;)
Also check tyre pressures are right.

canopy is heavy, remember that. Auto or Manual big difference with consuption however I think on par with the rest of the auto mob on here, could be wrong have been before. :D

On a recent trip out to biloela i used 32L for 275kms, and i have a little weight addiction, plus running 285's (33's) auto, and some temp problems, but usually stick around the 10.6L/100kms on the highway! Pretty good for a 2.6t truck with 33's. But im pretty sure i have one of the most fuel effecient autos going around... always has been... but it does like a drink around town! Upto around 13.5L/100kms...

usually get around 12l to 13l/100kms out of mine with auto, 32" tyres, bull bars and canopy etc

Havn't had a good highway run in years though- usually unloaded around town- or fully loaded up touring or towing. Thats the life of my work horse.

I used to get around 10.5 from my manual. Since the robe trip tho I'm around 13 to 14.,. I got slightly larger tires, which will add a bit but not sure where the rest is coming from...

My 07 GLS auto Petrol gives me 14.2 around town & 11.2 on the highway, as far as larger tyres go it would not change your vehicle the amount that you are saying it is, something is wrong. Ask your neighbour if his car is now getting a lot better mileage as I think that he is taking your fuel !!!!

FUEL CONSUMPTION ML TRITON 3.2

Haha, the little old lady syphoning my tank?? Might have to have a word with her.

It's due a service soon, so I'll raise it with them there I thinks. Probably an air filter needing changing or something.

Mine with standard tyres on is averaging 8.8l - 9.3l per hundred or about 650kms to a tank before the light comes on. Even towing a tralier that is chockers, mine has only gone up to 10.1l per hundred.
Do you drive it slow or do you get into when driving???
I dont know what size tank mine is, but im lead to believe that its a 75 l tank, but i have only ever put 63l in, and i had been driving with the fuel light on for quite some time.
Is it down on power???

Haha, tried that mooons! Thought I got most of it out! Might have a look at the filter and see how it's going. Other then that I'm not too sure what it could b. it's annoying me know tho cos I'm hitting the pump a lot more.

Check for cable ties around your tail shaft they cause extra friction

10.8 this tank so far, bar, winch, sliders, rear bar, heaps of weight, tools etc

Usually around the 12 or so depends on the winds, above is mostly tail wind though.

Oh and mine is a Petrol.......

I'm getting somewhere around the 11-12L/100 atm, probably 60%+ in low range, rest highway with a little bit of the old stop start traffic.

That's with bullbar, winch, 32" muddies on steel rims, rocksliders.

Generally get low 10's to high 9's depending on speed and weight during normal blacktop driving, but don't do much of that
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

FUEL CONSUMPTION ML TRITON 3.2

Postby big_bob_thefirst on Mon Feb 27, 2012 8:04 pm

Something's wrong then. Bugger. Other then tires, I have minimum weight, no bar work or canopy. Hmm, will have to get it checked out. I was doing low 10's but the sand at robe did something to it.

I usually get around 11-12's

manual, b/bar, winch, rear bar, LR tank (125lts) canopy, 265/70 AT's

best I have had recently was a long highway run-900 odd k's in a weekend. not loaded with much & 2 people on board. 10.75LHK

dont forget, when you change your tyre size it also alters the odometer reading, so the distance is also changed as is the extra weight you are trying to spin & the extra road friction

& we all know the the speedo/odo is out from new by about 8%. that makes the figures look better than they actually are

Correct - then we chuck on bigger rubber and the speedo squares up and the odo is out... :?
