Diesel fuel filter warning light

Postby A blue dog on Tue Dec 30, 2014 9:09 am

Vehicle is nearly 4 year old. No previous issues with warning lights.

Recently the fuel filter warning light came on. It stayed on for a while, then went off, the flickered the went back to normal on.

Hot footed it to my dealer only to be told (after a look) that it was possibly due to water in the fuel or a fill of bad fuel.

Left the dealer and the light did not come on again for some day, then only for a short time, and now it hasn't come on at all for some time.

In the meantime I have had a 135,000 service and again nothing untoward was detected. The vehicle performs normally.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Cheers and Happy New Year to All

I've never had the fuel filter warning light come on,
Your issue sounds consistent with a little water caught in the water trap,
I'd imagine your dealer drained the water trap and possibly a new filter, no real issue to worry about provided you service your vehicle regularly,
Some people have fitted aftermarket water separators filters etc

Does anyone know how to reset the warning light after a filter change?

If it hasn't gone off after a filter change, the switch could be hung up in the filter bowl, or the plug to the sensor not connected properly (most likely). The sensor wiring can get damaged too if people screw the filter off without unplugging the wires.
