im yet to really see major problems except the enging light coming on. so thats a plus

in theory it seems logical, why would u put dirty exhaust back thru the motor
apparently to make them more efficient and to help the environment well iam undecided 2

I can't see how it makes the engine more efficient?
It cleans up the exhaust a bit by burning some of it twice but at what cost to the fuel consumption and life of the engine?
You have to wonder if the cost to gain Euro 4 is not measured because fuel consumption, performance and engine life aren't part of the equation?

The guys a t Turbo Glide advised that the blocking of the EGR will only benefit the longevity of the motor. Nothing changes except that you are now burning cleaner air...

I would never do it expecting to get a fully sick as donk increase in power. only to make the engine cleaner by not having the constant build up

The drivability at low revs is considerably improved if you block it...

Yep the catch can is working well. not alot of oil to see but i would be worried if there was. You can definatly see the oil that has been filtered out in the bottom though.

I have a therory on this one .This carbon build up is a load issue as in not enough . Light load and high horsepower diesels will produce this carbon build up or slobering ,happens in trucks and earthmoving . I have had some good results just by changing brands of oil but the main thig is to load it up ,fill the back up with bags of sand and take it for a hard flog ,you have got to get it hot.
My tritron has just done 120000km ,had 700kg in the back from day one on its first trip towed a jayco hawk for 1600km ,no nursing ,no short shifting just drove it normal . it has never had an issue with surging or lack of power other than fuel filter problem
New 2.5 to be picked up after new year so will be interesting to see how that engine handles it

If i could afford to replace my triton when it runs out of warranty i woulden't care about the EGR system or carbon build up that would be MMAL problem. 120'000km is still very young IMO i would hope to get 4 times that and some,so carbon concerns me.

well like I said ,mine has weighed in at 2.6T from day one. With camper 3.7T. I dont thrash it ,probably never over 3000rpm but its the load that keeps the oil below the rings and better fuel burn.

unless you have taken the inlet manifolid off to inspect the build up of carbon how do you know you have no carbon build up? as i said i have no intentions of off loading my truck @120'000 kms and if i did i wouldn't care about carbon that would be mitis prob. There is plenty of members that do have a problem and MMAL have a hot fix to partly deal with this problem but not solve the build up issue. it is a problem that wont be solved by driving style because if it could MMAL wouldn't be relpacing manifolds under waranty. You may have a few things working in your favour load route ect.. but how do you know that @240,000 your old truck won't suffer from this problem?

cairsn could be onto somethink, a family friend has his triton with 1500000 on the clock and no carbon probs
dual cab, with a shit load of tools in the back+ a few gas tanks

when i cracked my egr open at 10000ks it was like a very thin layer of carbon(the back tail pipe had more shit on it)
cracked it open again to see what the face of the egr blanking plate was like and the same as 150000 ago(one finger swipe and the carbons gone). mines towes probly %50 of its life. im now thinking of leaving the plate out because of the fuel consumption but im still not decided

Hmm wonder how the wife would go towing the tralier to drop the kids off at school :? but i can see what cairns is saying and after reading my last post i may have been a bit defensive  what can the pepole who bought a truck to do the family day to day duites as well as the week end stuff(both not heavy load applacations)do about this problem? if the blow by is the part that makes the carbon stick then the crank case vent mod should suffice and that would make me a very happy camper :D i think the missus would have the same opinion about the sand bags as she would about the trailer ;) chick magnet has the plate caused a rise in fuel consuption? what sort of economy do you get with it out?

Hey guys, just an idea. Do you reckon it would pay to re-route the breather to the atmos instead of into the manifold. This may solve the grime in the inlet manifold?????????????

So what symptoms do you need to complain of to get the new manifold under warranty?

sorry ntbb haven't looked at this thread in a while its hard to say it probly adds .5 to .75 but for me its hard to tell because driving condition for me change soo much for every tank these days (no trailer highway, no trailer city, work trailer high way, work trailer city, 6m plate boat highway, with a mix of all these its hard to tell :?

I record my fuel consumption and have worked out the figures for the first 3000km from new with no plate and then the next 3000km with it fitted. All in the winter.

Normal 8.414L/100km[first 3000km]
Blocked 8.111L/100km[next 3000km]

Drives better too and never thrown a code. Currently 10,500km

Could this just be due to the motor loosening up. My economy improved over the first 10K as well (till I started hanging shite off the car everywhere).
