Springs not bad either!

The front driveshaft is particularly difficult to grease.

I bought a small grease gun years ago to allow better access to various nipples.

For the front one I have to get the gun in from an upper angle to make a proper coupling.

Sorry to bring up an old topic and sorry for the noob question but what type of grease is recommended for the driveshafts and also am I able to use the same grease to pack the inner CV joints with?

I think I read somewhere to use lithium grease, is this correct? If so, is this any good? http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Produc ... 450g/10240

The workshop manual just says multipurpose grease for the driveshaft. I haven't looked for cv grease yet.

Didn't even think to look in the workshop manual :oops:

I did find something on a Prado forum where apparently the Toyota owner manual states a lithium base NLGI 2 grease in Spiders (uni joints) and only moly type or Lithium in Slide yoke so will use the one that I linked.

With the CV's, this is all the workshop manual has

However, again, form other forums quite a few people have said to use lithium grease on the inner joints and moly grease on outer joints.

Will try give the dealers a ring tomorrow and see if they know anything

A swivel adaptor on the end of a hose sounds like a good combo, as the position of the nipple, to give a good seating of nozzle is not always the best for grease gun access.

I've always used the lithium/ holy based greases on my prop shaft grease points and on ball joints on past vehicles.

I noticed that the front wheel prop shaft does not spin freely. Is this supposed to be like that?

Eg when I turn the wheels the prop shaft spins when in 2wd.

On front axles with actuator, you'll have to start the engine to get the vacuum up to unlock the dog in the diff or might be able to hold the actuator unlocked - I usually just run the engine.

With the permanently coupled front axle just lift a wheel.

Obviously be in 2wd. :lol:
