Postby 5immo on Fri Sep 30, 2011 12:45 pm

Hi im taking my 3.2 diesel manual ml to get its overdue 90k service. Now im gonna supply the garage the parts cause i can get them cheaper than what he sells to me. SO i have ordered a oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and 3 belts(racq inspection says they need replacing) Anything else i need to get?

Oils & fluids? Is the 90k one with tappet adjustment? If so I think there's some seals/gaskets involved maybe? I'd be checking the service book for what is involved first.

supplying your own oils is one of the easiest and biggest savings you can make on a service if you go buy a 20L drum (2 services). so if your going to supply everything else i'd reconsider supplying your oil. :D

my local stealer quoted me $1500 for the 90k service. :o

they were very quickly told where they can stick their service. did all the fluids, brakes etc myself. now just waiting for my mech to have a chance to do my tappets now that i have the new manifold issue sorted. (while at the stealer they tried to upsell me a service whilst it was in getting the manifold done, the fruitcake tried telling me that all my filters needed replacing as they looked overdue - i made him aware in no uncertain terms that they were all just replaced within the last 2 weeks and maybe he should actually have a look before trying to bullshit me. wanted to strangle the bloke by the end of the convo

cheers

You should have strangled him just to see the look on his face  Maybe gold coins would have spewed out his filthy pie hole...?

$1500 is pretty steep. Were they gold plating your manifold ? That's rediculous. Has any one got the fixed price servicing would like a look at that.

Fixed price servicing is only up to and including the 60k service.

i did all the fluids, from washer bottle water (yes i did), flush of power steering fluid, clutch fluid, brake fluid, coolant, motor oil, front diff, transfer case, manual gearbox, rear diff, emptied out and cleaned diesel tank, new front brake pads, air filter clean and re oil, new oil filter, new diesel filter for under $300.

after taking the car to the stealers for the manifold replacement and seeing the shit they left on my lower manifold that obviously came out of the old upper manifold, and the missing vaccuum pipe nipple they forgot to replace, im glad i didnt get them to do the service and/or the valve clearances.

they tried to upsell me the valve clearnce work whilst the manifold was being replaced and wanted to charge me $400 labour and $150 for gaskets and seals. that was the second time in 2 mins that the bloke was told to shove it up his >>>>. lucky he caught me on a good day  bloke wouldnt look at me when i went to pick it up. the look on his face when i walked back in asking for my missing parts was worth the 20min wait to be served in the first place.
