4D56HP Oil Colour

Postby wilbo2 on Thu Nov 03, 2011 2:22 pm

Hey,

When checking the oil on the new GL-R I found it to be dark grey verging on black with a bit of ultra fine sediment/residue that would sit on the surface of the paper towel. It has 2000km on the clock. Is this normal? Comparing it to my old petrol Subaru this is not what I would have expected.

Also, are there any MN owners that put the 2T in their 4D56HP and swear by it? Cheers

Yeah it's one of the joys of owning a diesel I'm afraid. The first time I looked at my oil I was horrified and I too had a subaru before this. If you blank your EGR (there are whole threads about this) you may end up with cleaner oil but otherwise you will just get used to it as I have.

There are plenty who have added the 2T and reported quieter engine rattle and smoother running generally. I'm not aware of anyone having encountered problems with doing it so I think it is one of things where you try it if you're game and then see if you think it makes a difference. There are whole threads on this sort of topic too.

The two threads I wish people would use more: thing 1 and thing 2.

Hey CD cheers for the reply. I thought it could be related to that issue just wanted too check. I read those threads on 2T I think from memory plenty of 3.2 drivers saying they have done it just wasn't 100% sure if any 2.5 drivers are doing it.
